Anuloma

Anuloma or ( morganatic marriage in English) is a type of marriage existing much back during the Vedic period which also can be contracted in certain countries across the globe, usually between people of unequal social rank, which prevents the passage of the husband's titles and privileges to the wife and any children born of the marriage In India However, in the beginning the children belonging to anuloma marriage belonged to the fathers caste. Even the Buddha said, wise men of old has said, what matter the mothers birth, the birth of father is a measure. This shows that intercaste marriages were widely prevalent though marriage within ones owns caste was preferred. Generally, this is a marriage between a male of high birth (such as from a royal or reigning house), and a woman of lesser status (such as from a non-royal or non-reigning house, or with a profession that is traditionally considered lower-status). Children are considered legitimate on other counts and the prohibition of bigamy applies. In the beginning the children belonging to anuloma marriage belonged to the fathers caste. A lot of mixed castes arose because of anuloma marriages in the Indian society. This could be traced back into the sutra period and the Vedic period. Similar to this is paratiloma in which a man belonging to the lower caste gets married to a woman of a higher caste. According to vashishta dharmasutras children born out of a pratiloma marriage are chandalas and those born out of anuloma marriages are rathakaras and should be out casted and so the theory of mixed castes was and ingenious device that authors of the sutras used to explain so many castes because they didnt wanted to go against the Vedas that said there were only four castes. In vedic period however the cases of anuloma were more. According to the manu a person belonging to any of the three castes marrying a sudra was looked highly down upon It existed in different parts of the country and in different forms, castes and subcastes. In the erstwhile princely state of Travancore, in India, the male members of the Travancore Royal Family were, under the existing matrilineal Marumakkathayam system of inheritance and family, permitted to contract marriages with women of the relatively inferior Nair caste only In this case, the spouse of lower rank is given a title as respect, but the title has no valid meaning The tradition of morganatic marriage is largely associated with Germany, although it crops up in the news now and then; the marriage of Charles, Prince of Wales to Camilla ParkerBowles, for example, raised global interest in the concept. Since a Anuloma marriage represents a clear disadvantage in a number of ways, the marriages were .relatively rare, and great love or passion is usually associated with them.
