By Mr. Hesga Fadiastian Meidiansyah 1. What is the amalgamation ? Answer : This is an ancient process which involves the alloying of the gold particles with metallic mercury to form amalgam and then the separation of the gold from the mercury by heating in retorts until the mercury is distilled off. The method is used for the treatment of coarser gold (30 microns in diameter or greater). This process is strongly out of favor with the major mining companies, due to the extremely toxic nature of mercury and the processes inferior performance when compared to the available alternatives. The process is still used extensively by artesian mines in third world countries and at small mines, due to its simplicity. [Eugene.W.W.L and Mujumdar.A.S : Gold Extraction and Recovery

2. Is there any other dust for gold cementation ? Answer : There is, we can use alumunium dust and copper dust to cementated the gold. But,we prefer use zinc dust because zinc dust is cheaper than aluminium dust and copper dust. Materials Transactions, Vol. 43, No. 3 (2002) pp. 485 to 493 _c 2002 The Mining and Materials Processing Institute of Japan] By Mr. Muhammad Haris Hidayat 1. Can you tell deaeration tower process ? Answer : The de-aeration tower consists of a section of packed media to give maximum exposure of the leach solution surface to the vacuum pressure,

causing dissolved oxygen to come out the solution and exit with the flow to the vacuum pump. [Eugene.W.W.L and Mujumdar.A.S : Gold Extraction and Recovery Processes . Minerals, Metals and Materials Technology Centre (M3TC) Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore,2009.]

2. How many zinc dust are used in Merrill-Crowe process ? Answer : The amount of zinc dust is depend on which is the experiment we do, if excessive consumption of zinc occurs under these conditions. As shown in Fig. 4, as the level of oxygen is increased, especially at higher concentrations of cyanide, the solubility of zinc is increased substantially. In fact, about 50% of the zinc is dissolved when 0.5 mg/l 02 and 0.5 g/l NaCN are present. [http://www.scribd.com/doc/59323335/Merrill-Crowe-Solubility-of-Zincin-Alkaline-Cyanide-Solution]
