INTRODUCTION
In the world the communicative is advanced more and more each day, so there are three important stages in order to get produce information: a) Production, b) Distribution and c) Processing.

In the following information you will increase knowledge about DATABASES, in order that you understand and analyze information, so you will find learning and teaching with databases and their features and functions of each tool.

OBJECTIVES
Database is to get, to store, to generate information in order to have important information available.

A Database is basically a structured collection of data which is stored in a computer system.

Data is an asset for any company or entity and a general objective of a database is to provide security, safety and storage to data.

THE FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS OF DATABASE TOOLS: A database is a collection of related information or facts stored in a computer. It is used in banks, travel agencies, hospitals, universities, and libraries. It would be impossible to manage all of the information available without the use of databases. Applications that make functions the database are dBase or FileMaker Pro and it can be also Microsoft Works or Apple-Works.

Information of media forms, pictures, video clips, text and sounds.

Text information, letters and numbers.

Information in nodes, such as pages, note cards or individual objects on a computer screen.

SOURCES FOR DEBATES

Advantage: They allow practicing their research skills and focusing student attention on clearly identifying their information needs in relation to a particular problem. Disadvantage: Database is only as the information students identify and enter, and if the information is incorrect or not complete, it wino be very useful.

Student Create Databases

Teacher Created Databases

Teacher can use the flexibility of tool bases database programs to create it on any topic they wish. For example in a lesson, teacher decides on the type of information necessary, determine the fields needed, locate a source that makes the necessary information available.

Commercial Databases

These are often created in a hypermedia or multimedia format. Advantage: Is that the information is already there, in a way that will hold students attention and they can willing to collect it. Disadvantage: Is that teacher are limited to the information provided by the database publisher. There is usually no way to change or add information.

On-line Databases

These databases are stored on a computer called as server, it is text-based, multimedia, or hypermedia, access to and manipulation of information in these databases occur via the resources of the Internet.

LEARNING WITH DATABASES

Develop of process skills theses skills include information-related tasks such as analyzing, observing, classifying, communication defining, describing, evaluating, generalizing, inferring, interpreting, and extrapolating.

Databases and Problem Solving.

TEACHING WITH DATABASES

Research on Learning with Databases

Learning about the tools, learning with the tool, and applying the tool to new task. The emphasis changes from the mechanics of the software to the research required to locate data to be entered into a database.

DATABASES AS AN INTEGRATED LEARNING TOOL

Educator should pick problems that are contemporary, nontrivial, and real complex enough to engage students and amenable to concrete outcomes. It should derive from the ongoing curriculum of the classroom, not be artificially.

An Authentic Problem

A Clear Outcome / Product

It could be presented as a written report, and oral presentation, a three-dimensional model, or any other of an assortment of products or combinations of products.

Mechanical Skills

Teacher should be careful to analyze the database activity presented to students to determine which of the functions of a database are essential to the problem being solved.

Process / Thinking Skills

As meta-cognitive guides, teachers can model appropriate thinking processes for student, showing students how information can be transformed in particular ways.

CONCLUSIONS

I think that is important learn about the features a functions of DATABASES, because it is useful to have important information.

I think that we have to differentiate the different Databases that exist in order to have the information required.
