THE EMPLOYEES STATE INSURANCE ACT1948

This provides for Medical benefits to the family member of establishment whose gross monthly salary is Rs 7500/-or less. Employee contributes 1.75% of their gross salary whereas Employer contributes 4.75% of the same towards its contribution.

Q1 ) What are the benefits provided under the act ?

Following benefits are provided under the act. a) Sickness Benefit b) Maternity Benefit c) Disablement Benefit d) Dependant's benefit e) Funeral Benefit

Q2 ) Which form has to be filled for nominating self & family members for E.S.I.C? Ans : Form No 1 is to be filled for nominating self & family members for E.S.I.C .

Q3 ) What is the procedure of becoming member of E.S.I.C ? Ans : Employees coming under the purview of the act has to fill nomination form no 1, after which the form is submitted with the local E.S.I. office who then provide with Temporary card.

Q4 ) Till what time is the Temporary card valid? Ans : Usually the validity of the Temporary card is 13 weeks but after the completion of 13 weeks the employer can renew the card for a validity period of 3 months.

Q5 ) Can a member having Temporary E.S.I card register himself with E.S.I doctors ? Ans : Principally member cannot register himself with E.S.I doctor who does not have Permanent Card.

Q6 ) How do we register with The E.S.I doctor? Ans : Once a member receives his Permanent card, he has to contact his local E.S.I office and get addresses of the Local E.S.I. Doctors, then he has fill card no 13 which is called as Medical card from the HR department and submit the same with the Local E.S.I doctor.

Q7 ) What is the contribution period and Benefit period ? Ans : Contribution period and Benefit period are periods fixed for the purpose of paying Contributions and deriving benefits under the act.. Contribution Period 1st April to 30th September 1st October to 31st March of the year following Corresponding Benefit Period 1st January to 30th June of the year following 1st July to 31st December of the calender year

Q8 ) What is the contribution period and benefit period for Newly joined employee? Ans : In the case of Newly Joined employee, the first contribution period shall commence from the date of his employment and the corresponding first benefit period shall commence on the expiry of 9 months from the said date.

Q9 ) What is Standard Benefit Rate ? Ans : The Daily rate at which sickness benefit is payable to an insured employee during the period of his sickness is called Standard benefit rate.
