LEA
VOLVO
A tough powertrain
braking performance and minimum disc brake wear. The braking assistance system helps the driver maximise braking force in emergency brake application. Volvo EBS cuts the stopping distance and increases safety since the brakes are activated more quickly than in a conventional braking system with ABS and because brake pressure can be regulated individually for each axle. The new functions improve both safety and total economy.
New BEA more efficient bodybuilding and diagnostics
The powertrain originates from Volvos TX platform. Power comes courtesy of Volvos 340 horsepower DH12D engine, which offers excellent driveability even when carrying a full load of passengers up a steep hill. The engine is particularly fuel-efficient the maximum efficiency rating is 45 percent. The modern engine technology
provides optimum combustion under all operating conditions. The engines various functions are monitored and adjusted electronically and coordinated with the other on-board components via the BEA electronic system. In this way, every last drop of fuel is exploited to the full. The Volvo DH12D meets the Euro 3 standard and can also be specified with the Volvo Exhaust Filter or a factoryfitted oxidising catalytic converter. Power is distributed to the rear axle via a 4- or 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Volvo B12B LEA is designed so that really large numbers of passengers can get on and off the bus as quickly and conveniently as possible. The bus has a low floor all the way to the rear axle, and the powerful DH12 engine is installed at the very rear of the bus. This permits the building of a lowentry body that offers both high comfort and high passenger throughflow. Thanks to air suspension, it is also possible to specify a kneeling function, which further aids getting on and off.
The Volvo B12B LEA has a newly designed front suspension system with a conventional front axle, a configuration that offers several benefits. The driving characteristics on congested urban streets are of absolute top class, with good road feel and a tight turning circle. The suspension offers improved load capacity thanks to its low weight. Tyre wear is reduced since the conventional front axle permits the use of large wheels.
Volvos BEA electronic system is now in its second generation and offers several new diagnostic functions. It further improves operating reliability and aids both preventive maintenance and fault-tracing. Thanks to the new BEA, bodybuilding is also made simpler.
Built for a long life
Like the rest of the B12 family, the Volvo B12B LEA is built for a long life with many years of hard work. The frames box-section structure combines good stability with low weight and it is precision-welded with small tolerances. Corrosion resistance is excellent thanks to high-quality surface treatment and the use of stainless steel in particularly vulnerable parts of the frame.
The Volvo B12B LEA is equipped with the latest generation of Volvos electronically controlled braking system, Volvo EBS, which now offers more functions than before. With Hill Start Aid, the wheel brakes keep the vehicle at a standstill on a hill until the driver moves his foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. With Brake Blending, the wheel brakes, engine brake and retarder interact for best
