Description : Point Of Sale, also known as NPOS, is an in-store application providing two main functions, data collection, and price look-up. It resides on the ISP, or In Store Processor, server. PRICE LOOKUP - A store associate rings a sales transaction at a register. They are required to swipe the product bar code, or enter the division/item information

manually. A request is sent out over the store LAN to the ISP. The request is routed by NPOS application to the proper program. The PLU tables on primary database SMG0001 are queried to get the price data. This data is then routed back to the register to be displayed. DATA COLLECTION - After the transaction is completed at the register, the data is routed to the ISP and NPOS. The transaction is assigned a transaction ID, and is broken up into segments that correspond to database tables. Each segment is inserted into the proper table. The transaction ID is what identifies the transaction across tables. Each transaction is also written to a CICS transaction log. This log is a backup copy of the days sales. The ISP also communicates with mainframe entities for data lookup, verification, and sales polling. Responsibilities: Monitor maintenance jobs such as backup and runstats. Taking snapshots and creating event monitors for gathering necessary data Providing support for maintenance of test database including backup and recovery Maintenance of objects (Tables, Table spaces, Schemas, Indexes, views, Packages) Providing technical expertise in infrastructure platform support throughout all phases of break-fix (problem identification, resolution, test, deployment and turnover) Serve as primary contact between the application teams and IT support groups Responsible for application SQL Query tuning, database parameter tuning, operating system tuning, memory tuning. Database Backup/Recovery on databases and file system backups. Redirect Restore to move application from Development, QA and Production Analyze past trends and make suggestions to meet future requirements with respect to capacity and performance.
