National Fraud Initiative Mortality Screening

Since 1996 the Audit Commission has run the National Fraud Initiative (NFI). This matches electronic data to prevent and detect fraud. So far, NFI has identified more than 650 million in fraud and overpayments and the initiative has attracted international recognition.
Do you need: A cost effective way of identifying pensioners that are deceased? A proven and reliable data matching system? Accurate matching using National Insurance numbers? Matching that includes both deaths in the United Kingdom and abroad? A way of identifying deferred pensioners that have died? A secure way of sending data to a trusted organisation?

If the answer is Yes, then the Audit Commissions National Fraud Initiative (NFI) could help. NFI is already the UKs premier public sector fraud detection tool and it is now expanding to offer mortality screening services to all private sector pension schemes. A cost effective way of identifying your pensioners that are deceased Use of advanced data matching techniques that can replace the time and expense of sending life certification forms to verify pensioners existence. A nominal fee based on the number of records submitted. Access to a full list of your deceased pensioners through a secure web based application. A proven and reliable data matching system All public sector pension schemes and some major blue chip company pension schemes have been using NFI for over 10 years. Pension schemes taking part in NFI 2008/09 identified fraud and overpayments of more than 87 million. The largest schemes have identified hundreds of cases of fraudulent overpayments, some of which run into tens of thousands of pounds. Many of these cases had been running for years and overpayments could have continued to increase had they not been highlighted by NFI.

Accurate matching using National Insurance numbers The NFI mortality screening service is unique as it matches data to Department for Works and Pensions records, which include National Insurance numbers, to give an accurate match. Matching which includes both deaths in the United Kingdom and abroad A unique feature of the process is that it can identify deaths of UK citizens abroad as well as deaths in the UK. Identify deferred pensioners that have died By matching deferred pensioner data we can help you identify any that are deceased so that you can locate family members and dependants to make payments to them. A secure way of submitting data to a trusted organisation A secure web based system is used that applies automatic encryption. The matches are hosted on the same secure system. Password controlled access using the same computer architecture as online banking. Compliant with the information security standard ISO27001. NFI is accredited against Her Majestys Government information assurance standards.
