INTRODUCTION Zacks Investment Research is a Chicago based firm with over 30 years of experience in providing institutional and individual investors with the analytical tools and financial information necessary to the success of their investment process. In 1981, Zacks began processing, organizing and evaluating research produced by US brokerage firms. Today Zacks receives daily electronic data feeds and printed research reports containing estimates and ratings on over 4,500 North American publicly traded companies from over 185 brokerage firms. In addition, Zacks acquires data from SEC filings related to annual and quarterly financial reports and ownership data for US publicly traded companies. From this foundation, Zacks has developed a wide array of information products and tools to serve both individual and institutional investors. Through the Zacks Data API (powered by WebServius), Zacks provides data for corporate financial profiles, consensus analyst estimates for sales, earnings, target prices, and long term growth rates, along with buy/hold/sell ratings produced by Wall Street analysts and end-of-day stock price information. This kind of data is most often used to find good long term investment opportunities and for company performance benchmarking. NOTATIONS In the item descriptions below, there are references to quarterly and annual fiscal time periods. The future time periods are referred to as QR1, QE2, QR3, QR4, etc. for quarterly periods and FR1, FR2, FR3, etc. for annual time periods. Historical periods are referred to as QR0, QR-1, QR-2, QR-3, and FR0, FR-1, FR-2, etc. respectively. QR means quarter to report or quarter reported and FR means fiscal year to report or fiscal year reported. So QR0 is the most recent quarter reported and QR1 is the current quarter which is next to report. FR0 is the most recent fiscal year reported, and FR1 is the current fiscal year which is next to report. Note that these time periods do not roll over on calendar dates, but on report dates instead. So for example, if the fiscal year for Target Corporation ends on January 31, and they report their annual financial results on February 20, the FR1 EPS estimate for Target will not roll over to become the FR0 estimate until February 20. For each data item included in the API, we have a value for most tickers and most time periods. Items which are blank or have no value are occasionally represented by 9999.00, or -9999.00, or a similar series of 9 digits. Some of the data items values are represented by codes, such as an industry code, a sector code, or an exchange code. If the codes are not listed in the item description itself, they can be found at the end of this document. The tables below provide a brief description of each data set and the data fields contained in each set. TICKER SYMBOLS / COV ERAGE Zacks focuses primarily on US traded equity data, that is data for stocks traded on NYSE, AMEX, NASDAQ exchanges, plus many larger cap OTC stocks. All data offered through the Zacks API is mapped to ticker symbols for stocks traded on US exchanges. For Consensus data (estimates, ratings, target prices), we offer data for about 4,500 US traded stocks, plus about 700 Canadian traded stocks, which is the universe of companies covered by professional sell-side analysts on Wall Street. Ticker symbols for US traded stocks are typically in the same three or

four digit format as displayed on other financial websites such as Yahoo Finance or MarketWatch. Ticker symbols for Canadian stocks that do not trade on US exchanges use one of three prefixes: T. for TSX symbols, V. for Vancouver symbols, or M. for Montreal symbols. We use the US format for Canadian stocks that are dual-listed on both Canadian and US exchanges. Ticker symbols should be entered in ALL CAP format. To find out if a particular Canadian company stock is mapped to a US formatted ticker or uses a prefix, you can look it up by company name at http://www.zacks.com/research/lookup.php. At this time, Zacks does not provide data for ETFs, mutual funds, or fixed income securities through the API. So those symbols will not return any data if entered into an API string. DATA OVERVIEW The Zacks API allows you to retrieve information for a particular company from a number of different Data Sets by specifying a company name or a ticker symbol. The available Data Sets are as follows: Data Set Name CZ1_Company_Profile Description Company Profiles This data set provides company profile information such as sector, industry, exchange traded, list of peers, and financial stats and ratios. Company Addresses & Officers This data set contains company names, addresses, and names and titles of top five company officers. Company Business Descriptions This data set contains two items, Ticker and Business Description text block. The business descriptions are about 150 words or less. Dividend Record File This data set provides information on recent dividends paid and historical dividend trends for each company. Expected Earnings File This data set contains information on expected earnings report dates and comparable earnings estimates. This information is typically used to construct and earnings calendar. Expected Dividend File This data set contains information on expected upcoming dividends for each company. Sales Consensus File 1 This data set focuses on current revenue estimates and changes in the revenue estimate for each company over the last 7, 30, and 90 days. Sales Consensus File 2 This data set focuses on current revenue estimate statistics (Mean, Median, Standard Dev, Number of Estimates) for the previous and next two fiscal years and four upcoming fiscal quarters. Sales Consensus File 3 This data set focuses on changes in the current estimates for the previous and next two fiscal years and four upcoming fiscal quarters, over the last one week, month, and quarter. Target Price Consensus File This data set focuses on current target price estimates and associated statistics. Target prices are the prices at which brokers predict a stock will rise or fall to within the next year. EOD Price Data File This data set provides yesterdays endofday open, high, low, and close price for each ticker. Stock Price History File This data set provides a rolling five year daily history of split adjusted prices per share. Custom Company Profile This data set provides a selection of fundamental statistics and company profile information. Its kind of a more condensed version of CZ1.

Institutional/Insider Holdings This data set provides the percentage of outstanding shares held by institutional investors and by company insiders. Custom Company Profile This data set provides a slightly different selection of fundamental statistics and stock price performance trends. Earnings Estimates & Long Term Growth This data set focuses on earnings estimates for the next few quarters and projected growth rates derived from estimates. Earnings Estimates Revision Trend This data set focuses on earnings and long term growth estimates today versus one week, one month, two months, and three months ago, for the next two fiscal quarters and fiscal years. Earnings Surprise File This data set focuses on earnings surprises over the most recent and four prior quarters. Earnings surprises are the percentage difference between actual earnings per share and corresponding estimated earnings per share. Earnings Growth Rates This data set focuses on projected earnings growth rates based on future estimates for the company, its industry, and the S&P 500. Analyst Ratings This data set focuses on the number of analysts that rate each stock as a Strong Sell, Sell, Hold, Buy, and Strong Buy, as well as the consensus mean recommendation. Figures are provided for current ratings as well as recent figures from 1, 2, and 3 months ago to show a recent trend up or down. Analyst Revisions & Histogram This data set focuses on recent estimate and ratings revisions over the last 7 and 30 days, along with expected earnings report dates coming up. This information can be used to produce a histogram chart indicating the potential for an earnings surprise. Company vs Industry/Sector Earnings Analysis This data set focuses on recent earnings estimates vs actual results for the last few quarters, and the next couple quarters and years going forward, for the company, its industry and sector, and the S&P 500. EPS Estimates & Analyst Ratings This data set provides a basic starter collection of EPS estimates for the next two quarters and three years, plus current analyst ratings. Estimate Coverage Changes This data set focuses on how the number of analyst estimates contained in the consensus figure for each stock has changed over the last 7 and 30 days for the next couple quarters and fiscal years. Forward Earnings Estimates & Long Term Growth This data set focuses on earnings estimates for 3, 4, and 5 fiscal quarters out, and 3 and 4 fiscal years out, along with projected growth rates derived from estimates. Forward Analyst Revisions & Histogram This data set focuses on recent estimate and ratings revisions over the last 7 and 30 days, along with expected earnings report dates coming up for 3, 4, and 5 fiscal quarters out, and 3 and 4 fiscal years out. Price Action This data set focuses on trends in price per share over the last 1, 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 180 trading days. Extended Estimate Revisions This data set focuses on recent estimate revisions over the last 60, 90, 120, and 180 days. Most recent five years of financial statements for about 6,700 US traded companies. Attributes include some general company information, income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement line items. Each of the Data Sets contains multiple Data Points per company (a full list of Data Points is found further down in the document). For example, the ZN1 (Earnings Estimates) Data Set contains over 30 Data Points including company name, ticker symbol, current quarter estimate, next quarter estimate, last years actual earnings, and more. With the financial statement domains (AXFUNDFULL, QXFUNDFULL, AXFUNDCURR & QXFUNDCURR), use the dateFrom, dateTo, and limit parameters to pull data for multiple time periods at once. Once youve signed up for the API at ZacksData.com, it might be easier to work with the API by logging in directly at http://www.webservius.com. That way youll have a bigger screen with which to manipulate the API tools available there. One usage unit equals one data point for one ticker on one day. The price per usage unit varies according to the chart below depending on the level of monthly minimum payment commitment you are willing to make. This is similar to many cell phone payment plans that lower the cost per minute depending on the level monthly payments you commit to. At the top tier level of $11,995 per month, you get unlimited usage, or all you can eat.

The usage units will be calculated based on the total number of Data Points you retrieve (for example, if you retrieve two data points, the Current Quarter End Date and the Current Quarter Average Earnings Estimate, for 500 companies, you will be charged for a total of 1,000 usage units, regardless of the number of API calls). You will not be charged for Data Points for which there is no data (i.e. data points that are missing from the output results).

Retrieving the company name and ticker symbol does not cost any usage units. Searching using the ZacksMaster parameter costs 1 usage unit per search, even if you do not select it. Make sure to use select and limit parameters to limit the amount of data you retrieve. By default, all available Data Points are returned in a particular Data Set, so using API calls without a select parameter can become expensive. The pricing is slightly different for the four data sets that provide financial statement and price history data. For the annual statement domains, one usage unit gets you five reporting periods for each data item. For the quarterly statement domains, one usage unit gets you six reporting periods for each data item. The two current data sets (AXFUNDCURR & QXFUNDCURR) contain only five annual periods and six quarterly periods of data respectively. The two full data sets (AXFUNDFULL & QXFUNDFULL) contain up to thirty annual periods and one hundred and twenty periods respectively. PAYMENT METHOD AND TIER UPGRADES Our API management partner, WebServius, uses PayPal to process data payments. In Tier 1, when you use up your initial free 10,000 usage units, you will need to deposit money in your API payment account using PayPal. If you have a PayPal account, that should be a fairly straightforward process. You can choose to make one-time payments manually, or you can set up automatic refill payments whenever your account reaches a minimum amount. You set both the automatic refill amount and the minimum threshold amount. If you dont have a PayPal account, you can still make manual payments through the PayPal gateway as a PayPal Guest. Normally, the API is used to retrieve information on only one company. However, it is possible to use the API to select many companies at the same time (e.g. companyContains=INC will find all companies with Inc. in their name, which is a lot of companies). API responses where too many companies are selected will include a value called NextToken (as an attribute of <Results> in XML, or as a value in the top-level object in JSON). This typically indicates that there is a mistake in API usage (selection criteria is not sufficiently narrow). However, some advanced scenarios exist where many companies need to be selected at once by name. In this case, you may use the &nextToken= parameter with the URL-encoded NextToken value to retrieve the next page of results from the API. You must ensure that the second request is identical to the first one except for the nextToken. This nd rd process may be repeated as many times as necessary (e.g. use 2 NextToken to retrieve 3 page, etc.)
