Severe Burns

Provisions Handphone Mat Kitchen film Torchlight Rubber hose *Provide the items above to each participant. Situation You happen to pass by a house and see smoke seeping out of the window and door gaps at night. You see a small fire burning the window curtains. A few helpful neighbours are willing to provide you anything you need to treat the victim. (A few aeresol cans will be placed in the hall before the participants arrive and position the victim in the hall) Steps (Recommended) 1. Contact the emergency services immediately and report the fire. 2. Evaluate the danger before entering the building. (Participants must remove the aeresol cans in the hall) 3. Remove the victim from the burning building and place the victim in a safe place. 4. Check for victims response and vital signs. 5. Avoid the burned area from touching the ground. 6. Remove any obstruction near the burned area. 7. Pour the burned area with running water. (For at least 10 minute) 8. Wrap the burned area a few times with the kitchen film. Strains and Sprains

Situation You are assigned to duty as an emergency personnel in a night marathon at the field first aid station. A runner suddenly collapses in front of you and complains of he sprained his leg. With a first aid kit and ice pack in your hand, the marathon officials call for your help. Steps (Recommended) 1. Rush towards the victim and remove him from the track. (Help to support the victim to walk) 2. Ask the victim to rest. 3. Locate the sprained area. 4. Place an ice pack on the sprained area. 5. Bandage the ice pack to the sprained area. 6. Elevate the sprained area. 7. Contact the emergency services and report the incident. 8. The reef knot must be correct. Marking Scheme Each mark will be given for each step taken. Severe bleeding/Shock

Situation You have just witnessed a robbery where the robber stabbed the victim and took all the victims valueable belongings. The robber also left his knife penetrating the victims body. You happen to find a first aid kit in a nearby shop. Steps (Recommended) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Perform DRABC on the victim. Contact emergency services and report the incident. Prevent the victim from falling unconcious during treatment. Apply pressure on the wound to stop bleeding and around the knife penetrating the victims body. Elevate the part of the body of the victim to prevent from excessive bleeding. Apply dressings on the wounds to prevent the bleeding from being exposed to infection. Place the victim on a mat and cover the victim with a blanket. Make sure the legs of the victim is higher than the level of the victims heart.

Broken bones/Fractures

Situation You have just witnessed two people attempting to commit suicide by jumping off a building from the first floor. The first person landed on his legs and the secomd person landed on his both hands. You happen to find a first aid kit in a nearby shop. Steps (Recommended) 1. Contact emergency services and report the incident. 2. Perform DRABC on both victims. 3. Treat the victim who fell on his both hands for injuries but careful not to worsen their broken bones. 4. Ensure the victims neck who fell on his legs does not move just in case of spinal injury. 5. Bandage the hand of the victim who fell on his both hands. 6. Bandage the arm of the victim who fell on his both hands and another bandage around the abdominal area to make sure the hand does not move. 7. Tie four bandages of the victim who fell on his legs with two wooden broom sticks by his sides. 8. The reef knots must be correct. Marking Scheme Each mark will be given for each step taken. Head Injuries

You managed to stop them from fighting and there are serious injuries on both victims head. You happen to find a first aid kit at a nearby pharmacy. Steps (Recommended) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Contact emergency services and report the incident. Perform DRABC on the victims. Treat any injuries found on the victims bodies. Treat the head and jaw injuries found on the victims. Bandage the jaws of the victims. Bandages the head of the victims. Prevent the victim from falling unconcious. The reef knots must be correct.

Electrocution

Situation You just came back from school and found your brother laying unconcious with a hair dryer in his hands. You realize he is suffers from electrocution and quickly retrieve the first aid kit in your house. A thick book, bottle of water and a broomstick is placed around the area. Steps (Recommended) 1. Contact emergency services and report the incident. 2. Cut off the main switch of the electical appliance. 3. Find a book and a broom stick and remove the electrical appliance with the broomstick while standing on the thick book. 4. Treat the burns on his hands with running water. 5. Wrap the hand with kitchen film. 6. Bandage the hand of the victim to prevent from further infection. 7. Make an arm sling to elevate the victims arm higher than the heart and make a bandage around the victims abdomen to prevent movement of the arm sling. 8. The reef knot must be correct.
