PRAYER is our intimate conversation with God who we know loves us (St. Teresa of Avila).CFC 1475 CHRISTIAN PRAYER is our personal faith response to God, that is, - a loving, conscious, personal relationship with God, our all-loving, good Father - who has adopted us through His beloved Son, Jesus Christ - in the Holy Spirit BASIC TYPES OF PRAYER 1. Adoration to prostrate ourselves in silence before our God Enter, let us bow down in worship; let us kneel before the LORD who made us. For this is our God (Ps. 95:6) 2. Thanksgiving to thank God for everything He has given us. Giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father. (Eph. 5:20) 3. Petition to ask God for spiritual and material graces. 4. Contrition to ask for forgiveness from our divine Saviour. 5. Offering to offer all our thoughts, words and deeds to God Before we pray, we have to invoke the Holy Spirit And no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 12:3) Jesus said to pray continually, and never lose heart. (Lk. 18:1-8) Levels of Christian Prayer Private, Personal prayer (the rosary, novenas, devotions to patron saints, meditations, etc.) Public, Communal prayer (Holy Eucharist, Prayer Gatherings/Meetings) Kinds of Prayer 1. Vocal prayer. It is to give glory to God through our voice and our songs. We must pray with a clear voice and accompany the words with our hearts. 2. Meditation. It is to search in the silence of our heart for Gods love and will. 3. Silent prayer. It is the silent and loving contemplation of Gods love. 4. Prayer of the Heart. It is the condition of continuous prayer, in which we repeat endlessly: 'O God, be merciful to me a sinner.' (Lk. 18:13) The enemies of prayer 1. Distraction. It turns our attention away from God, and makes us concentrate on other things. 2. Spiritual dryness. It makes us cold towards God. 3. Worldly occupations. They take us away from prayer by occupying us with our daily activities. 4. Discouragement. It drives us away from prayer when petitions are not immediately answered by God. The Sign of the Cross In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Making the sign of the cross -- as we will do during the blessing -- means saying a visible and public "yes" to the One who died and rose for us, to God who in the humility and weakness of His love is the Almighty, stronger than all the power and intelligence of the world. -Pope Benedict XVI, Angelus September 11, 2005 The Lord's Prayer is the model of prayer that Jesus taught us, as recorded in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke Our Father in heaven, holy be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread. and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sinned against us. Do not bring us to the test, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours. Now and forever. Amen The Hail Mary is based on these passages from the Bible: Luke 1:28-35, 42-48. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. The Angelus The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. And she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Hail Mary....) Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to thy word. (Hail Mary....) And the Word was made Flesh. And dwelt among us. (Hail Mary....) Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. LET US PRAY: Pour forth, we beseech You, O Lord, Your grace into our hearts; that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Your Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYER TO THE DIVINE MERCY A simple and short prayer yet very meaningful. The Divine Mercy prayer is also known as 3'o clock prayer remembering the hour of death of our Lord. The message of mercy is that God loves us all of us no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC. A Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. 2

The Prayer " You died, Jesus, but the source of life flowed out for soul and the ocean of Mercy opened up for the whole world. Oh fountain of Life immeasurable Divine Mercy, cover the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. "O Blood and Water which flowed out from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You! " Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One Have Mercy on us and the whole world." Amen (3 x) Jesus King of Mercy I trust in you! The message and Devotion to Jesus as Divine Mercy Prayer was based on the writing of Sis. Faustina Kowalska a polish nun who is very obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about Gods mercy. Even before her death in 1938, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. Presently the Divine Mercy Prayer is one of the most popular devotion for Catholics. A minute of prayer that will show our love to our savior. Let us pray Divine Mercy Prayer every 3o clock in the afternoon as we remember the great salvation of our Lord. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into the dead; On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Morning Offering O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. In reparation of our sins; for the intentions of the Holy Father and for the conversion of our friends and our families. Our Queen and our Mother, we give ourselves entirely to you and to show our devotion to you, we consecrate to you this day our eyes, our ears, our mouths, our hearts, our whole being without reserve. Therefore, Good Mother, as we are your own, keep us and guide us as your property and possession. Amen.
