The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs presents its compliments to the Permanent Missions of Member States and Non-Member States to the United Nations and has the honour to inform that the United Nations Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty will be held from 2 to 27 July in New York. Following consultations by the President-designate of the Conference, it is envisaged that the Conference would feature on 2 and 3 July, a High-Level Segment, at ministerial level, under the agenda item General exchange of views of the draft provisional agenda of the Conference contained in the report of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference (A/CONF.217/1). Delegations wishing to be inscribed on the list of speakers for the General exchange of views/High-Level Segment should contact the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (conventionalarms-unoda@un.org), telephone: (+1-212) 963-9204. The list of speakers would be opened on Friday, 1 June, and closed on Monday, 2 July, at 1 p.m. To accommodate as many speakers as possible, a five-minute limit per statement would be observed. Pursuant to the decision of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference, contained in paragraph 26 (B) of the report of Committee, the Secretary-General of the United Nations has appointed Mr. Danil Prins, Chief, Conventional Arms Branch, Office for Disarmament Affairs, to serve as Secretary-General of the Conference. In accordance with rule 3 of the provisional rules of procedures (A/CONF.217/L.1), the credentials of representatives and the names of alternate representatives and advisers shall be submitted to the Secretary-General of the Conference, if possible, not less than one week before the date fixed for the opening of the Conference. The credentials shall be issued either by the Head of State or Government or by the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Therefore, credentials in due form should be submitted to the Secretary-General of the Conference (Mr. Danil Prins, Office for Disarmament Affairs, 405 E. 42nd Street, room DN-3513, New York, NY 10017, USA) by 25 June 2012.
