On July 30 August3, GEEF is offering a High School Leadership Program LEAD for Tomorrow for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students attending Harford County Public Schools. The program is designed to give students a glimpse into the world of business, government and their community; identify their impact on key societal issues and continue developing resources to prepare them for college and the workforce. Because of the financial support from the Criminal Justice System and the Youth Commission this program is being offered at no cost. There are only 30 seats available. First come-first served. It is important for APG security purposes that we have students identified to attend in the next two weeks. We encourage you to be prompt in your reply to attend. This is an exciting opportunity for our students and hope your children can take advantage of this rare program. Below you will find the sessions for each day. Students will be dropped off at the Ramada Conference Center on Van Bibber Road, Edgewood at 9:00 a.m. and their day will end at 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Please arrange transportation for drop off and pick up times. Students who attend will be entered into a drawing for prizes. One prize is a free Kindle Fire! They will receive a polo shirt and certificate of completion of the program which will be an asset for future scholarships and college admissions. LEAD for Tomorrow (Learn, Educate, Advocate and Decide for Tomorrow) Day 1: Business and Government The morning will be spent at the Harford County Government visiting the County Executive, Economic Development, and Planning and Zoning learning about emerging issues that affect the health and vitality of Harford County. Lunch. Work with Denise Carnaggio to plan a tour of incubator businesses, learn leadership in startup organizations and the importance of connecting todays learning to the needs of the future workforce. Day 2: Aberdeen Proving Grounds Morning and afternoon spent on APG. Hear from contractors and the work of the military and APG. Students will have access to labs and hands on practicum. Students will learn about the variety of careers available on base, the role the military plays in our community and Intern Programs students can apply for. Planned tours of the Proving Grounds and lunch on site. Day 3: Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Participate in a mock trial at the court house and Q&A with a Judge. Hear from the Office of Drug Control and its impact on the health and stability in our community. Lunch at Buontempo's. Visit the Sheriffs Department Forensics Lab, learn the importance of crime solving, community safety while participating in hands on practicum. Day 4: Health and Human Services Tour the Harford County Health Department and hear about key issues in community needs and how the health system supports them. Lunch. Afternoon students will travel to the Welcome One Emergency Center and The Arc to hear from leaders involved in emerging health and human service

issues such as, homeless, the aging, and disabled. The students will learn how leadership in the community supports these issues and how important community, grassroots efforts are to strengthening the health and welfare of the community. Day 5: Life Skills Debrief Personal Action Planning Particpate in Mad Money City. Mad City MoneyTM is a 2-hour hands-on simulation that appeals to youth and gives them a taste of the real worldcomplete with occupation, salary, spouse, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. Students take on the role of an adult in futuristic Mad City. Theyre given jobs, income, a family, and debt. The challenge? Visit merchants to select housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care, and other wants and needs while building a budget. Lunch provided. In the afternoon, the students will engage in debriefing session to discuss learned opportunities from each day, how their leadership can affect the health of their community, and write a personal action plan on what students need to do today in school and community to achieve success in their future.
