What is the Sacrament of

Confirmation? Why do we need to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation? What happens to us when we receive Confirmation?

Before we continue, let us think about this.

If you were given gifts for

your birthday, what would they be?

We treasure the gifts that we receive from our loved ones and friends, as a sign of our gratitude for them. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we also receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This is symbolically seen in the Celebration of the Sacrament.

The Celebration of Confirmation

In the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation, chrism, a special oil, is anointed on our forehead. The anointing of chrism on our forehead symbolizes that we are fully part of the Church. It also symbolizes the mark that we receive in Confirmation.

When the bishop lays his hand on those being confirmed, he confers on them the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The bishop says, Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

We Respond: How can we become true witnesses of Christ?

How can you describe a

witness?

How can you describe a

true Christian witness?

A witness is someone who sees and speaks of the events happening to the world. A Christian witness does not keep the story of Jesus to himself, but shares it to other people. He is not just watching. He also shares.

To be effective witnesses to Christ and to the Church, we must do the following:

Read the Bible and study well our lessons in class. Be an active member of the Church by serving in the Mass, volunteering to read in the Mass, and even, joining the choir. Share to our family members, friends, yayas and drivers what we know about Christ.

We Respond: What else can you do to become a true witness to Christ and to the Church?

ACTIVITY Aside from doing the things mentioned above, you can also become a true Christian witness through applying the gifts of the Holy Spirit in every moment of your life.
Try to think of one situation where you can use or apply a gift/s of the Holy Spirit.

We Pray
Prayer to the Holy Spirit Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of thy faithful. Kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, so they will be created And you shall renew the face of the earth. Amen.
