Edinburgh is a city
of United Kindom.
Edinburgh was founded in 1125 as a borough (city of merchants) but it wasnt significant until 1437. Edinburgh was one of the most important centers of education and culture in the age of Enlightenment, thanks to the University of Edinburgh.
Edinburgh has a moderate maritime climate. During all the year it rains a lot. In the winter the weather is calm. In the summer the temperature is a little bit cool
Royal Mile:
Is the most famous street in Edinburgh, has a length of 1814 meters.
The street communicate the Edinburg castle at West and the Holyroodhouse palace at East.
The Royal Mile is divided in 6 parts: Castlehill and castle esplanade Lawnmarket High street Canongate Abbey Strand
Edinburgh Castle:
Is an ancient fortress that makes one of the most emblematic places of the city, and one of the most visited. The castle stands up on the hill of Castle Hill offering majestic views of downtown. The only entrance is by Royal mile.
Holyrood Palace:
Located at the end of the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, is the official residence of the Queen in Scotland. The palace was built when the king James I decide change the cold castle for a palace. The queen Mary Stuart was beheaded in this palace.
Tolboth kirk:
Tolbooth Kirk was a church, was built in 1842 and is the most tallest building in Edinburgh. Although is not used as church but in 1999 opened its doors as "The Hub", the information center of the Edinburgh Festival
Calton Hilton:
Calton Hill is a hill at east of the New Town of Edinburgh, Princes Street just beyond.
Every summer Edinburgh is visited from people of all the world. The festivals are put on by various organizations unrelated to each other. They form the largest annual cultural festival in the world. Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
