Edinburgh is a city
of United Kindom.

Edinburgh was founded in 1125 as a borough (city of merchants) but it wasnt significant until 1437. Edinburgh was one of the most important centers of education and culture in the age of Enlightenment, thanks to the University of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh has a moderate maritime climate. During all the year it rains a lot. In the winter the weather is calm. In the summer the temperature is a little bit cool

Royal Mile:
Is the most famous street in Edinburgh, has a length of 1814 meters.

The street communicate the Edinburg castle at West and the Holyroodhouse palace at East.
The Royal Mile is divided in 6 parts: Castlehill and castle esplanade Lawnmarket High street Canongate Abbey Strand

Edinburgh Castle:
Is an ancient fortress that makes one of the most emblematic places of the city, and one of the most visited. The castle stands up on the hill of Castle Hill offering majestic views of downtown. The only entrance is by Royal mile.

Holyrood Palace:
Located at the end of the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, is the official residence of the Queen in Scotland. The palace was built when the king James I decide change the cold castle for a palace. The queen Mary Stuart was beheaded in this palace.

Tolboth kirk:
Tolbooth Kirk was a church, was built in 1842 and is the most tallest building in Edinburgh. Although is not used as church but in 1999 opened its doors as "The Hub", the information center of the Edinburgh Festival

St. Giles Cathedral:


Located on the Royal Mile, in a compromise between the Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the St. Giles Cathedral was built on an ancient shrine built in the ninth century, to be consecrated to the patron saint of lepers. In 1385 it was burned by the British people and was rebuilt in a Gothic style

Princes street garden:


It is the largest urban park in central Edinburgh. Separating the Old City from the New Town.
It have a dimension of over 150,000 square meters.

Calton Hilton:
Calton Hill is a hill at east of the New Town of Edinburgh, Princes Street just beyond.

Edinburgh National Museum:


Edinburgh National Museum was inaugurated in 1998, the museum lodges more than 10,000 objects.

National gallery of Scotland:


The National Gallery of Scotland is a museum that exhibits works of art of the Renaissance. This museum includes works by painters as Tiziano, Velzquez, Van Gogh and more.

The museum of Childhood:


The Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh is the world's first museum dedicated to the history of childhood. His collection consists of toys and games from different generations.

Every summer Edinburgh is visited from people of all the world. The festivals are put on by various organizations unrelated to each other. They form the largest annual cultural festival in the world. Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The most typical products of Edinburgh are:


The kilts, the famous men's Scottish skirts. The Whisky, but is more expensive than other countries because you pay an impost. The bagpipes (Gaita) Shops close between 17:00 and 18:00. On Thursdays, the schedule is extended from two hours. On the Royal Mile normally stay open until 20:00. The principal shopping areas are: Royal Mile, Prince street, Multrees Walk and Duncan street

The Heart of Midlothian:


In the square next to the cathedral you can see a heart made of granite slabs. This is the place where was located the former prison of Edinburgh. Today is usual spit into the heart to bring good luck.
