HCS Youth - Online Committee

25 October 2012

From the vision and mission of HCS, we as the youth arm of HCS -- outlined for ourselves some general objectives

Our Objectives:
From the HCS Vision: A Filipino society that values and preserves its cultural heritage. . . To educate and inform the youth about our built cultural heritage

From the HCS Mission: . . .HCS as the prime mover and advocate for the preservation of Philippine built heritage resources . . .the establishment of a society that preserves and values its heritage . . .

To get the youth involved in various activities to help conserve our built cultural heritage
To inspire the youth; to cause affection and appreciation for our culture and history

A key strategy in helping to EDUCATE, INVOLVE and INSPIRE the youth is the development of a strong, online presence that empowers the young person

Some Observations from the October 20 - Xocolat Discussions

We have relatively active Facebook, Twitter accounts which links to much information, but we can improve in getting more people involved and

increasing interactivity We could use a site / blog as a learning resource a heritage 101 repository which people can easily and freely access There are upcoming events that we should be promoting already to get better youth participation, e.g. the November Heritage Summit

Our communications should not be limited to just online; we should not forget traditional channels, especially if in the future we get prominent enough to attract outside attention

We propose the following initiatives to help build this online presence (1/2)

Initiative1

Description
Optimize our use of FB and Twitter Determine content to share, and how to source the best type Select creative ways to increase participation and interactivity levels (maps, surveys, memes, etc.) Create hub ecosystem of heritage resources Develop sustainable update mechanism for FB and Twitter Create system to rapidly and effectively execute awareness campaigns or events promotion Get word out, create online petitions, make hashtags Design HCS Youth Brand and Philosophy Determine the brand name: Is HCS the best name for the youth arm? Initials thoughts from the group: Heritage as mana or inheritance that is owed to us; Heritage is part of our everyday life
