Nowadays, numerous people are now weight and look conscious but temptations are everywhere, like food

and too much intake of this could result to cholesterol though some cholesterol are also good for the body. Right now scientists are looking for ways that can help eliminate the build-up of cholesterol.

- found to help lower the amount of cholesterol in the blood and the only alcoholic beverage that can help reduce cholesterol content of the blood.

* Four different types of wine were used in the experimentation which are: Strawberry wine, Tapuy (rice Wine), Red wine , Duhat (plum) wine. After the duration of the experimentation the wines showed a positive

reaction about the increase of HDL-C or High-Density

Lipoprotein cholesterol or better known as the good Cholesterol for the mice.

Food is one of the basic needs of people because it energize and become their passion. Eating doesnt only means enjoying but also suffering in a way that it makes one obese or to be prone in obesity madness which is now one of the major problems in the United States.

in its technical view, is a form of alcoholic beverage wherein its natural chemical is grapes and it undergoes the process of fermentation. It is also like an accent in social gatherings wherein without it the celebration might not be that enticing as it should be.

Wine,

Wines also have benefits, aside from increasing the atmosphere in a social gathering, according to analysis and studies wines lessens the cholesterol level of a person because wines have Flavenoids that lowers bad cholesterol and it also has Saponins that lowers a small percentage of LDL cholesterol which causes the blockages in atherosclerosis and which may even form a blood clot in the artery.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

In this study the researchers would like to find out if the indigenous wine, produced here in Baguio city, will have the same effects as the red wine. The result from this could help the city of Baguio in economical ways. Such ways like the wine industry here in Baguio would not just benefit the City of Baguio but The Philippines as well. The indigenous wine would be preferred over be, not only that it has health benefits but is also cheap not a steal from the pocket.

Cholesterol level

Doctors often measure the amount of cholesterol in the blood to determine a patients overall health condition. A high level of this substance means a high risk of having a heart disease. Lipoproteins, a complex of proteins and lipids, allow cholesterol to travel in the blood.

ASSUMPTIONS OF THE STUDY

1. Either of the two kinds of wines red wine and indigenous wines can lower the cholesterol level of the mice. 2. The rats will survive for a long period of time after giving them intakes such as wine and food rich in cholesterol.

3. One of the indigenous wines will show a significant effect on reducing the cholesterol level than the other indigenous wines.

4. A new indigenous wine will be made known in the wine making industry thus making people patronize their own product.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The study focuses on the composition of the red wine and indigenous wine which can be bought in the market in Baguio City. The researchers also tackled about what composes a red wine and indigenous wine in lowering cholesterol level. As the investigation goes further, the researcher found out some of the causes why rational beings also animals were dying because of high cholesterol level. Moreover, the researcher also had a research about what makes up in cholesterol why it is harmful when excessive and on what are the remedies in lowering cholesterol.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study exemplifies its significance by knowing the alternative uses of Red Wine and Indigenous Wine aside from it is used in different social gatherings. The researchers will determine on which of the two is more effective. Through this study, the researchers will help the people in reducing their cholesterol level without any further complexity. In addition, by reading this material, readers might be surprise in the information and be discourage to eat excessive provisions in order to avoid such illness.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
Wine. A beverage that is made up of fermented juice of any of various kinds of fruits or plants, usually in various kinds of grapes, which intoxicates and exhilarates drinkers. Usually contains 10 15 percent alcohol. Duhat Wine. A wine mainly made up of freshly extracted Duhat juice, from a Duhat fruit, water, sugar and yeast. It has a purple red color that has a distinct fruity aroma and smooth flavor that provides consumers with a delightful experience.

Tapoy Wine. It is widely produce in the provinces of Cordilleras. The extracted liquid after fermentation is the Tapoy or rice wine and the residual is the rice mash. HDL (High Density Lipoprotein). Referred to as the good cholesterol since it reduces, reuses and recycles LDL by transporting it to the liver where it is processed there. LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein). Carrier proteins that transport cholesterols which cannot be dissolved in the blood stream and they are also one of the members of the lipoprotein family.

VLDL (Very Low Density Lipoprotein). Also known as VLDL cholesterol, is a form of cholesterol that helps to distribute trigylicerides through the bloodstream. A portion of this type of cholesterol also converts into LDL or low density protein cholesterol, which can eventually clog blood vessels and lead to a number of health issues. Because of this conversion, physicians tend to monitor VLDL cholesterol levels along with LDL and HDL levels.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a fat (lipid) which is produced by the liver and is crucial for normal body functioning. Cholesterol exists in the outer layer of every cell in our body and has many functions. It is a waxy steroid and is transported in the blood plasma of all animals.

Data

Gathering Tools

The materials used for the experimentation were eight mice, with four cages and four water outlets; four types of wine were used namely- Red wine, Tapuy or rice wine, Strawbery wine, Java Plum Wine or Duhat Wine. All four wines have 12% alcohol content, kept at room temperature and stored perfectly.

The laboratory instruments that were used were the dissecting pan, latex gloves, cholesterol level counter, alcohol-soaked and dry soaked cotton balls, lipid profile reagent stripe. The researchers had the mice drink the wine with the ratio 1:2 meaning one type of wine for two mice. They were kept in 4 different labeled cages. Using the 16 lipid reagent strips, the researchers tested the cholesterol of each mice before and after every experimentation with the help from GOMO. One mice would have two reagent strips one for the post-test and the pre-test.

Summary The testing was done by taking blood samples from four groups of 2 mice, on which two tests were done using profile lipid reagent strips. First was the pre test this was the part where the mice consumed the wine, and the post-test was conducted after the mice were given their respective dosage of 6ml wine diluted in a 3ml distilled water five days after the pre test. Four different types of wine were used in the experimentation which are: Strawberry wine, Tapuy (rice) Wine, Red wine, Duhat (plum) wine.after the duration of the experimentation the wines showed a positive reaction about the increase of HDL-C or High-Density Lipoprotein cholesterol or better known as the good Cholesterol for the mice.

Conclusion

The researchers found out that indigenous wine could really lower down the cholesterol level but not as good as the red wine. It has also been found out that consuming indigenous wines can increase the HDL-C of an organism that is why indigenous wine could also be an alternative for red wines. This study may also help the local wine making industry reach up to the foreign wine making industry since, their results in lowering the cholesterol level is the same as the red wine.

Recommendation

For the next researchers who wants to study about the effects of red wine and indigenous wine on the cholesterol level, the researchers suggest that they should take another kinds of wine and a white wine to know what is better in contributing to the health of the people. They may also use other specimens asides form rats, like guinea pigs.

The researchers would like to thank GOD for the unrelentingly support. He had provided the researchers strength to overcome many challenges of the said study. Even though theres only a limited time to finish everything, God has given the researchers the opportunities and blessings to learn from the study and be able to apply it into life. Mr. Oscar D. Bautista, the researchers subject adviser, for his unending guidance, support and empowerment to finish our study without restraints; Benguet State University Veterinary Hospital, for the consult regarding the blood extraction of our testing organisms, white mice; GOMO Clinic, for helping the researchers know the amount of cholesterol of the specimens; And lastly, the researchers would also like to thank their parents, for their financial and moral support in every step of the way.
