HISTORY
Ferdinand Magellan was the first European explorer to go to the Philippines
The king of Cebu told Magellan to kill the kings enemy, Lapu-Lapu, but Magellan ended up dying in the battle. After Magellans death, there were more Spanish explorers visiting the Philippines
In 1617, Spain colonized the Philippines (By King Philip, hence, Philippines)

The Philippines were under control of Spain until 1898, then were under the control of the US after the Spanish-American War. On July 4, 1946, the Philippines declared independence from the US The first President was technically Manuel Quezon, but it is accepted that Emilio Aguinaldo was first, because he was the President of the Philippine Republic The first democratically elected President was Corazon Aquino

CULTURE
Combines Malay and Indonesian roots, but Is very diverse, hence the different language Over 100 dialects throughout the Philippine islands, influenced by their own cultures and the USA, China, India, and Arabia.

Regional languages include: Bicol, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, Pampanga, Pangasinense, and Waray Auxiliary Languages include: Arabic and Spanish
