The Internet

Who invented the Internet?

A single person did not create the Internet that we know and use today. Below is a listing of several different people who've helped contribute and develop the Internet.
The idea The initial idea is credited as being Leonard Kleinrock's after he published his first paper entitled "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets" on May 31, 1961. In 1962 J.C.R. Licklider gave his vision of a galactic network. In addition to the ideas from Licklider and Kleinrock, Robert Taylor helped create the idea of the network.

The Internet as we know it today first started being developed in the late 1960's.

First network equipment's

August 29, 1969 the first network switch and the first piece of network equipment called "IMP", which is short for (Interface Message Processor) is sent to UCLA. On September 2, 1969 the first data moves from UCLA host to the switch. The first Internet message was sent from computer at UCLA , into the SRI computer . This connection enabled the first transmission to be made, this is also considered to be the first Internet backbone.

Ray Tomlinson introduces network e-mail in 1972. The first messaging system to send messages across a network to other users.
Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn design TCP during 1973 . TCP splits into TCP/IP to support real-time traffic. This allows the creation of UDP. TCP/IP is still the primary protocol used for the Internet. In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee develops HTML

Leonard Kleinrock next to the IMP.

Switch On a network, a switch is a hardware device that filters and forwards packets through the network, but often not capable of much more. The first network device that was added to the Internet was a switch called the IMP. Backbone A portion of a computer network that is capable of carrying the majority of traffic on the network at high speeds. The backbone often connects large networks or companies together. Without a network backbone, you would need to pass through dozens or even hundreds of different computer and routers in order to get access to the computer storing what you need. This is why when a network backbone goes down your Internet connection speed can be drastically reduced or may not even be able to go through to certain places in the world.

IP Short for Internet Protocol, IP is an address of a computer or other network device on a network using IP or TCP/IP. For example, the number "166.70.10.23" is an example of such an address. These addresses are similar to an addresses used on a house and is what allows data to reach the appropriate destination on a network and the Internet.

This is how the IP works:

What is WWW ?
Short for World Wide Web, WWW sometimes also abbreviated as W3 or Web is a graphical interface for the Internet that was first introduced to the public on August 6, 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee. The world wide web consists of billions of pages linked to each other that contain text, graphics, multimedia files, and other interactive software. The Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks. In contrast, the Web is one of the services that runs on the Internet.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Internet

Internet has been perhaps the most outstanding innovation in the field of communication in the history of mankind. As with every single innovation, internet has its own advantages and disadvantages. But usually, greater magnitude of advantages outweighs its disadvantages.

Advantages: Faster Communication, Information Resources, Entertainment, Social Networking, Online Services, e-commerce. Disadvantages: Theft of Personal Information, Spamming, Virus Threat, Pornography, Social Disconnect.
