Meaning: A procedure for providing new employees with basic

background information about the firm.

Purpose of orientation: To provide new employees with the

basic background information they need to work in the company. At a minimum orientation should accomplished four things: feel welcome and at ease understand the organization in broad sense be clear about what is expected in terms of work and behaviour begin the process of becoming socialized in the firms ways of acting and doing things.

Meaning: The process of teaching new employees the

basic skills they need to perform their jobs. Trainings strategic context: Training used to focus mostly on teaching technical skills The firms training programs must make sense in terms of companys strategic goal performance management

Training, Learning and Motivation


Training learning and motivation are connected with each

other. In training programme learning and motivation is necessary to make it more effective Learning helps in effective training programme. Training is futile if the trainee lacks the ability or motivation to benefit from it. In training the employee require reading, writing, and mathematical skills education, intelligence etc. Employers can take several step to make the training programme more effective by increasing the motivation of the employee. Example, show why it is important, provide an overview,

The needs of training is depend on whether we are training new employees or current employees. The main task in analyzing the new employee is to determine what the job entails and how they have to do it in a specific manner. Analyzing the current employee is more complex because the training to the new employee will be given mainly when the target is not achieved, performance declines, change in technology, structure etc. Mainly in this we have to provide the solution to the employee

How you would find the training requirement?


Task analysis: Assessing new employees training needs.
It is also known as the job analysis. TA is a detailed study of the job to determine what specific skill the job require. Example: Data entry - typing speed web browser - java In this analysis job description and job specification are helpful. It shows about the job specific duties and skills which helps in determining the training programme that what type of the training is provided to the new hire employee.

Performance analysis:
assessing current employees training needs This is for the current employee who are currently working in the organization. It is a process of verifying that there is a performance deficiency and determining if the employer should correct it through the training programme or some other means. The various ways you can identify the current employee needs.
Performance appraisal Job related performance data (absenteeism, grievances, waste, product

quality) Observations by supervisor Interview with employee Attitude surveys Diaries.

Training Methods
On the job training
This means that employees have to learn a job practically. Every employee from clerk to the CEO have gets the on the job training. Types of on the job training Coaching (By an experienced workers) Job rotation (one job to another job) special assignments (working on actual problems) Is a less expensive, quick feedback, motivation to senior employee. Success is depend upon the interest of the candidate and the ability of the senior employee.

Apprentice Training
Apprentice is a process by which people become skilled workers, usually through a combination of formal learning and long term on the job training. Is a more effective then other method then other method. Is very long method candidate can leave the programme from middle of the programme and more expensive.

Job Instruction Training


In this method all the job task are listed in order to give step by step training to the employee. This step show what is to be done and how it should be done.

Lectures
It is one of the simple way to provide training to the employee. Large number of the trainee can be trained through this method.

Programmed learning
Programmed learning presents the facts and follow up question frame by frame. The learner can then respond and provide feedback. The next question is often depend upon the accuracy of the learners answer to previous question. The medium may be textbook, pc, or the internet. It is a step by step self learning method that consist three parts Presenting questions Allowing the person to responds Providing feedback on the accuracy of the answers.

Audiovisual-Based Training
In this type of the training the techniques like DVDs, films, power points, videoconferencing, audiotapes, and videotapes can be very effective and very widely used. The trainee are more interested . Practically need in explaining the process. It is expensive then the lectures method.

Simulated training(Vestibule training)


Also known as the vestibule training The trainee learn on the actual or simulated equipments they will use on the job, but actually trained off the job.

Training will be held in the separate room or vestibule. Without training cant be go for the real work. It is necessary when it is too costly or dangerous to train employees on the job.

In this method the company provide training through the computer by using DVDs, this systems increases there skills and the knowledge. in modern days it is widely used and interactive. generally the more complex job are needed this type of the training.

Distance and internet based training


Used for the trainee who are on another place.

Teletraining
With this method trainer in a central location teaches groups of employees at remote locations via television hookups. Honda American began this method to train the engineers.

Videoconferencing
Videoconferencing allows people in one location to communicate live via a combination of audio and visual equipment with people in another city or country or with groups with several cities

Internet based training


Many of the company used the internet technology to train there employee. They are providing the courses to there employee on the internet. Example.. Saba.com

Instant messaging
some of the company encouraging the employee for the instant messaging as a quick learning device. It build a friendly environment between the employee.
