SITE SELECTION FOR NEW RECREATIONAL PARK IN KOTA BHARU KELANTAN

INTRODUCTION
Industrial practical SUG 393 is the final semester subject for students Diploma of Geomatics Science (Geographical Information System) AP121. While undergoing this practical, I have get exposure with the real work situation especially in GIS and survey project. For GIS work, I need to update the standard sheet from Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Desa (JPBD) Kelantan. After scanned or captured all image of the sheets for whole district in Kelantan from JPBD, we need register and update this data used the Arcgis programme software. This process is called georeferencing. For GIS analysis project, I have decided to choose the title Identifying The Strategic Area for The New Recreational Park At Kota Bharu, Kelantan Darul Naim.

Global Intech Services Sdn. Bhd. was established on 7th March 2007. Was established by Tuan Hj Rahimi Bin Samad as Managing Director. The Company location at Tingkat 1, Lot 2861 & 2862, Jalan Hospital, Paya Bemban, 15200 Kota Bharu, Kelantan. This Company enlarges their services in Geographical Information System (GIS), Surveying, digital mapping, Global Positioning System (GPS) and training.

OVERVIEW OF PROJECT
Open space and recreational facilities should be taken into account in preparing development plans. Provides 10 percent open space and recreation for all types of housing development, commercial, industrial, mixed, tourism and institutional is one of priority. Open space and recreational facilities shall be equipped with facilities like public toilets, public telephones, playground and so on according to its stage of development in line with population growth and increasing public awareness for the exercise as a healthy lifestyle.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE


The main purpose of this study is to determine the suitable criteria for establishment recreational area. This study focused on Kota Bharu Town area. To achieve the purposes of the study, the targeted objectives of the study are as follows:

To study on the criteria that suitable in determine the location to locate the recreational area. To identify the suitable and strategic areas for propose the recreational area in meeting the needs of residents in the vicinity of Kota Bharu Kelantan.

CRITERIA

Land used (Agriculture/Open Space) Zoning (Recreactional Area Planning) Area should be within 1 km from existing road. Area more than 2.0 hectare (5.0 acre). Not less 50% from open ground or recreational area must be built in development site.

Figure below is show select by attribute process on the land use to determine the area of agriculture area activity or open space.

For zoning layer, we also need use Select By Attribute analysis to determine the planning area on the future. This is one of criteria for choose the strategic location to locate the recreational park. The blue area is the planning for established the new recreational park.

Union overlay are use to overlap the layer between open space/agriculture area with propose recreational area in zoning. This output will keeps all areas of the two input layers.

BUFFER THE MAIN ROAD


Strategic area should be within 1 km within existing road. This criteria to make sure the public easy to visit this recreational park area. With use the buffer analysis, we can determine the propose area that near with the road.

SECOND RESULT
Intersect overlay is use for view the intersection area between first result layer (union result) and road buffer within 1km result. Both input attribute are overlapped remain in second result.

For determine the final result, select by attributes process must be run to find the location that have more 2 hectare area. This is because to establish a recreational park need the large area.

After analysis have been done, the strategic for propose the recreational can be determine. The red color area is the suitable location according their criteria and the result output as below:

CONCLUSION
As conclusion the objective of this project is successful achieved because the strategic location to propose a recreational park in Kota Bharu Town can be determine in final result. This area is place on Lots 649, Section 27, Bandar Kota Bharu. This location is suitable because has fulfilled the criteria regarding the guideline to establish a recreational. With Geographical Information System (GIS) technology application, the criteria of study area can be identifying more suitable site for locate a recreational park. After use GIS analysis such as Extract, Overlay and Proximity the criteria can be process faster and accurately.
