Number off 1-4 Go to table with your number

Each group has a different color marker. Take it with you to record all of your responses with each rotation. Glue the problem in the center of the chart paper. Add 2 frames of reference, leaving room to write in each. Number the corners of the inside frame 1-4

Getting Ready to Work

Each group should have the following roles: Recorder will write the groups responses Manager maintains focus on tasks Spokesperson reports out to whole group Timekeeper monitors deadlines Establish ground rules for participation, listening, task completion, & movement

All groups will answer only question #1 in the corner marked #1. You are not to solve the problem!!!!!! Each group will move quietly and directly to the next table in increasing order (1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5, 5 to 1)

Question # 1 What are you being asked to do or to find in this problem? Write your answer in the corner marked with #1. Take your marker with you when you are directed to the next group.

When you have arrived at table 2: Read the problem Verify the answer of the previous group, make any necessary changes with your marker. Answer question 2 in #2 corner. Question #2: What will we need to do or use in order to solve the problem? Use a Flow Map. DO NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM!!!!!!! Take your marker.

When you have arrived at the 3rd table: Read the problem Verify the answers of the previous groups, make any necessary corrections. In corner #3: Solve the problem using the previous groups flow map. Also answer the question: Were additional steps needed in the sequence in order to solve the problem? What were they? Take your marker.

Move to the 4th rotation Read the problem Make any adjustments or corrections from the other groups In the corner marked #4 justify the responses of all other groups or determine a problem solving method that would have been a better choice. When directed, return to your original position.

In the outer frame of reference, verify the work of all previous groups. Respond to the following: Was your original understanding of the problem accurate? How do you know? How did you benefit from this activity?

How will your problem solving skills be changed by what you learned today, the next time you work alone?

Evaluate this activity for higher order thinking.

Design a similar activity incorporating HOTS.
