Advantages
Flexible and adaptable for a variety of projects. Helps to build self-esteem through allowing them to be more active in their own learning process, rather than passive via traditional lecture based methods. Reinforces and builds several skills of students in the areas of physical, emotional, and cognitive. It can work with any age group.
Kids are naturally very inquisitive. Teachers often train them out of it. I think our first learning is inquiry based. (Anonymous, 2007)

Disadvantages
Doesn t work for all science topics. Requires more planning, preparation, and responsiveness from the educators. Educators must be skilled in helping students learn the art of asking a good question. Requires more class time May be less able to meet goals of standardized testing
There are many good teachers who have no handle on how to teach using inquiry-based lessons

The Parent-N-Me program which was implemented by Diana Suskind at the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School (th
Suskind at the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School (the Murri School) at Acacia Ridge, Brisbane, provided parents with the opportunity to relax and observe how competent their infants are. The Inquiry Process helps infants explore and learn about their world and themselves, and also helps the parents learn about their infants, as well as improving their own parenting techniques.
The goal for this third grade classroom was to design a structure that could support as much weight as
possible. The students scavenged the classroom for craft and scrap materials to build the frameworks you see here. They then planned out their structures and built away. So far - in the middle of the testing process - some of the structures haven't broken yet with 38 pounds of sand on them!
