rainforest in the world.
Africa
 Africa has 53 countries.
 It is smaller than Asia in both size and
population.
 It has the longest river in the world the Nile.
Europe
 The number of countries in Europe varies
based on the definition of a continent and
where Russia and Turkey are placed.
 Parts of Russia and Turkey are considered
both part of Europe and Asia.
 The Ural mountains separate the two
continents.
Asia
 Asia is the largest continent. It also has the
highest population.
 China is the largest country in the world.
Australia
 Australia is the only continent occupied with
a single country.
 It is the smallest continent.
 A large part of Australia is a desert.

Antarctica

 Antarctica is Earth's southernmost


continent.
It is the fifth-largest continent in area

 Antarctica is the coldest, driest and windiest


continent. Since there is little precipitation
the interior of the continent is technically the
largest desert in the world.

 There are no permanent human residents.


Pacific Ocean
 The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth
's oceanic divisions.

 Its name is derived from the Latin name


Mare Pacificum, "peaceful sea", bestowed
upon it by the Portuguese explorer
Ferdinand Magellan.
Atlantic Ocean
 The Atlantic Ocean is the second-largest of
the world's oceanic divisions.

 It covers approximately one-fifth of the


Earth's surface.

 The first part of its name refers to the Atlas


of Greek mythology, making the Atlantic the
"Sea of Atlas".
Arctic Ocean
 The Arctic Ocean is located in the northern
hemisphere and mostly in the Arctic north
polar region.

 It is the smallest and shallowest of the


world's major oceans.
Indian Ocean
 The Indian Ocean is the third largest of the
world's oceanic divisions, covering about
20% of the water on the Earth's surface.
Southern Ocean

 The Southern Ocean, also known as the Great


Southern Ocean, the Antarctic Ocean and the
South Polar Ocean, comprises the
southernmost waters of the World Ocean south
of 60° S latitude.
 Many countries and people do not recognize this
as an ocean.
Equator
 0 degree line of latitude.

 Separates the Earth into the Northern and


Southern Hemispheres.
Prime Meridian
 0 degree line of longitude.

 Separates the Earth into the Western and


Eastern Hemispheres.
