How to judge abnormal behavior
Us as humans have different ways we can determine
whether our behavior or others behavior is normal or not.
Mood Disorders
According to National Mental Health Information center, each year some
44 million Americans experience a mental disorder. (NMHIC, 2006)
One of the most common disorders is called Depression.

Some Symptoms Of Depression Are:
o Lack Of Interest
o Sadness
o Feeling Guilty Or Worthless

Some Causes Of Depression Are:
o Social Factors
o Biological Factors
o Philological Factors
Depression can be treated many ways but the most common ways are
psychotherapy or anti-depressant medication.

Anxiety
Anxiety usually comes with panic attacks. The panic attack often come
hand in hand with anxiety.
There are many symptoms of anxiety. Some symptoms are:
Feeling anxious or afraid
Withdrawing from normal activities
Increase heart rate/ hyperventilation
Being afraid of loosing control

Causes of anxiety:
Cardiac problems
Hyperthyroidism
Hypoglycemia
Stimulant abuse
Medication withdrawal

Treatment include behavior therapy, exposure therapy and medication.


Psychosomatic and Somatoform
Disorders
Psychosomatic disorders are a real illness. Tension
headaches are common as well

Some other symptoms include:
Late day tension headaches
Chronic Fatigue
Irritability
Difficulty concentration

Causes:
Mental or emotional disturbance
Extreme stress and/or anxiety
Muscle tension
Lack of rest
Poor posture
Treatments include relaxation therepy,muscle relaxers, and
pain relievers.

Dissociative Disorders
Dissociative disorder happens when the persons personality is separate from
the rest. An example of this disorder is Dissociative Amnesia. This type of
amnesia is caused by loss of memory.

Symptoms:
Cannot remember past
Cannot remember personal information
Confusion
Depression
Anxiety

Causes:
Overwhelming stress
Traumatic events
Genetic

Treatments include many therapies such as family,cognitive,creative
therapies and physiotherapy. Also, medications and clinical hypnosis can
help.
Sexual Disorders
Sexual Disorders are often defined by the times we live in, the culture around
us, or even by the individual. A group of sexual disorders is called Paraphilia,
which include exhibitionism, fetishism, voyeurism, and sex with non-human
objects. There are no known causes.
Personality Disorders
Personality disorders are having conflict with others. Some type of conflicts
can include bullying.

Symptoms:
Refuse to conform to social norms
Hatefulness
Impulsivity
Irresponsibility
Aggressiveness
Irritability
no remorse

Causes:
Environment where they grow up in
Abnormal nervous system
Abnormal brain function
Treatments are psychotherapy and medication.
Other Disorders
Schizophrenic Disorders are persistent with out of touch with reality
behavior.

Childhood disorders would have been long diagnosed in our students
like autism, hyperactivity, and attention deficit disorders.


The study of all of the disorders we have covered today has revealed that
there are gender and cultural differences of how these behavioral disorder
