Definition
Advertising is a form
of communication used
to persuade an audience (viewers,
readers or listeners) to take some
action with respect to products,
ideas, or services. Most commonly,
the desired result is to drive
consumer behavior with respect to a
commercial offering, although
political and ideological advertising
is also common.
History
Egyptians used papyrus to
make sales messages and
wall posters. Commercial
messages and political
campaign displays have
been found in the ruins of
Pompeii and ancient Arabia.
Lost and found advertising
on papyrus was common
in Ancient Greece
and Ancient Rome.
History tells us that Out-of-
home advertising and
billboards are the oldest
forms of advertising.
Advertising industry
There are 2 theories about advertising:

1)The strong theory- advertising is an
influential force which can change attitudes
and make a significant contribution to peoples
knowledge and understanding

2)The weak theory-advertising can only
nudge people in the direction in which
they are already moving, in the other
words it reinforces rather than persuades.
The marketing mix

The marketing mix wich
was suggested by professor E.
Jerome McCarthy consists of
four basic elements called the
four Ps:

PRODUCT

PRICE

PLACE

PROMOTION

Advertising plan
There are four key questions to ask
ourselves when we think about an
advertising plan:

1) What do we want our advertising to
accomplish?

2) Whom should our advertising speak to?

3) What should our advertising say?

4) What advertising medium should we use?
theory
The steps are:

1.Awareness
2.Knowledge
3.Liking
4.Preference
5.Conviction
6.Purchase

suggests that there are six
steps a consumer or a
business buyer moves
through when making a
purchase.

Conclusion
Advertising is part of everyday
culture in the same way that television
programs are part of culture.
Advertising is recognized as being
a source of entertainment as well as
giving information. It is a media in its
own right. As such it provides people
with another subject to talk or gossip
about.
Building on that,we can say that in
the future it can create the language of
the street and bring new phrases or
colloquialisms into use.
