Is the capital city of East Borneo, Indonesia. The whole area of
this city is directly adjacent with Kutai Kartanegara district.
Mahakam river which divides in the center of city became a
gateway to interior of East Borneo. The city has an extensive
area around 718 km
2
and consists of 726.223 people. (
Indonesian Population Census 2010 ), administratively,
Samarinda divided into 10 sub-districts, there are : Loa Janan
Ilir, Palaran, Samarinda Ilir, Samarinda Kota, Samarinda
Seberang, Samarinda Ulu, Samarinda Utara, Sambutan,
Sungai Kunjang, and Sungai Pinang. Its mayor is Syaharie
Jaang and his vice is Nusyirwan Ismail.
In the past, it used to be one of
Kesultanan Kutai Kartanegara ing
Martadipura. In the mid-17th
century, this region was paddy
field. This region was named
Sama Rendah which means that
all residents are same (Sama)
and this region consists of many
lowland areas (Rendah). Finally,
that name changes to be
Samarinda. Its birthday
legitimated on January 21st
1668.
Pesut Mahakam is mascot of
Samarinda. But now, we cant
find this fish in Mahakam river,
because they move to upper
course of river. Based on
research, there are just 50 fishes
still alive.
The best place for holiday
with family because
comprehensive with the
comfort fasilities such as
rest area, place for take
shelter with the trees
around the location, the
large parking area, small
shop, open stage and
bathing place.
Berambai waterfall
Located on Jl. Batu Besaung,
Sempaja, North of Samarinda .
Consists of a forest with the
fresh air. Its the best place for
take a rest with your family. Its
the highest and largest waterfall
in Samarinda.

Unmul botanical garden
Located in North of
Samarinda, around 20 Km
from central of Samarinda.
This Botanical Garden consists
of Natural Lake, Zoo, and
stage. There are so many
visitors on the weekend.
Desa Budaya Pampang
Is a culture village which located near
Siring river, Samarinda, East kalimantan
and became the most popular tourism
object in Samarinda which legitimated by
East Kalimantans Governor, HM Ardans
on June 1991. The Government feel so
enthusiastic with this place, because it
has the positive activity which be a
popular asset. The Dayak Kenyah ethnic
performances every Sunday there. In
every year, there is the event for
celebrate its birthday, called Pelas
Tahun.
Is a trade center in Samarinda
with wide is around 2.7 hektare
which built for create the place
for small seller (60%) , medium
and high seller (40%). It built on
August 27th 1987. This Antonio
Ismaels art activities center got
the international reward , Aga
Khan Award for Architecture
(AKAA) on 1989.
Masjid Shiratal Mustaqiem
Samarinda
Is the oldest mosque in Samarinda
which located in Samarinda Sebrang. It
built on 1881 , it became a 2nd winner in
Historical Mosque Festival in Indonesia
on 2003. It made from ulin (traditional
plant from Kalimantan), its wide is 625
m

and the length is 16 m. This mosque
be one of a protected cultural heritage
based on Law Number 5, 1992 about
objects of cultural heritage.
Masjid Islamic Center Samarinda
Is located in Teluk Lerong
Ulu, Samarinda, East
Kalimantan. It is the most
luxurious and the biggest
mosque in South East Asia.

of honor. The characteristic of this
food is the chicken meat served
with reddish color of spices. This
portion of Ayam Cincane served
with a plate of white rice and
sambal.

Buras & laksa always served with
Haruan fish sauce. We can find this

Bubur Ayam
Its so unique, because
served with sauce and
completed with slice of
chicken, eggs, tomato,
chives, celery and chips.
We can find it in Komp
Prefab on Jl. Harmonika.
Nasi Kuning
It consists of yellow rice,
serundeng dishes. There
are many kind of dishes,
haruan/gabus fish, chicken,
egg, etc.
Tahu Tek - tek
Tek-tek named
because the seller
always banged a
spoon or fork into a
bowl with the sound
tek.. tek.. They sell it
in the night until
midnight. It seems like
Gado-gado.we can
fiind it on Jl.
Diponegoro No. 101,
Samarinda.
At the first time, this handicraft
brought by Bugis people
from Sulawesi who live in
coastal area of Mahakam river
(now Samarinda Seberang).
Gedokan or Alat Tenun Bukan
Mesin (ATBM), a tool which
used by weaver. To make one
woven cloth we need 2 3
days.
