C Hormone, androgen inhibitor, hair stimulant. Used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia
(enlargement of prostate gland) also to treat male-pattern baldness

H Results will show increased urinary flow; decreased post-voiding dribbling; hair growth within
3-6 months

E may be taken with or without food

C -

side effects may include impotence, decreased libido, sexual dysfunction; consult health care
provider if symptoms are severe or dont go away.
Take at the same time everyday
There are two brand names Propecia results may not occur for 3 months and Proscar results
may take 6-12 months

K -
Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not touch crush tablets for
coming contact with the semen of the patient taking this product

Possible secondary malignancy side effect; monitor for symptoms in change of breast size,
lumps, pain, or discharge

water intoxication.

Metformin
C- Endocrine drug. The purpose: inhibits hepatic glucose production and
increases sensitivity of peripheral tissue to insulin.
H- therapeutic response: decrease in polyurea, absence of dizziness, stable
gait, A1c at normal level, clear sensorium
Giving with meals to reduce GI upset. Can be taking in the morning and
evening.
Do not use with dofetilide; may cause lactic acidosis.


Metformin
C- regularly sel-monitor blood glucose
Must be continued on daily basis
Avoid OTC medications, alcohol unless approved by prescriber
Metformin is not a cure, only controls symptoms. Take with meals
Carry emergency ID and glucagon emergency kit.
Side effects are headache, weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, tinnitus, fatigue,
vertigo, agitation

K- assess CBC ( baseline, q3mo) during treatment, check LFTs periodically,
AST, LDH, renal stuies: BUN, creatinine during treatment, glucose, A1c, folic
acid

Glipizide
C- use for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Causes functioning B cells in pancreas to
release insulin, leading to drop in blood glucose levels.
H- Improved serum glucose, absence of dizziness, stable gait, clear
sensorium, decrease in polyurea. Precautions: in pregnancy, cardiac disease,
severe renal/hepatic disease



Glipizide
E- take 30 min before meals. Comes in tablets form. Max 40 mg/day in
divided dose or 15 mg/dose.
C- report bleeding, bruising, weight gain, edema, sore throat. Product must
be continued on daily basis. use sunscreen or stay out of the sun, wear
protective clothing. Do not drink alcohol

Glipizide
K- assess blood glucose, for severe hypoglycemia give IV D50W, then IV
dextrose solution.

Sildenafil
Viagra
C: Erectile agent, antihypertensive, peripheral vasodilator. Phosphodiesterase
type-5 inhibitor.

H: Decreasing pulmonary hypertension, improved exercise tolerance; ability
to perform sexually (male)

in your body.

H- Prevent nausea and vomiting

E- Can take with or without food or milk.

C- May cause drowsiness and dizziness, avoid alcohol, and avoid getting sunburn
Do not use CHILDREN younger than 2 years old.

K- Severe allergic reactions; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips,
or tongue; confusion; excessive sweating; fainting; fever, chills, or sore throat;
hallucinations, and mental or mood changes.

Meclizine
C- Antihistimine. used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion
sickness. Also, used to treat symptoms of vertigo.
H- Prevent nausea and vomiting
E- To prevent motion sickness, take meclizine about 1 hour before you travel or engage in
activity that causes motion sickness.
C-
Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
Headache; vomiting; dry mouth; tired feeling; or drowsiness.
K- hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Scopolamine
C- anticholinergic. used to relieve nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion
sickness and recovery from anesthesia and surgery.
H- Prevent nausea and vomiting
E- Take each dose with a full glass of water.

Use caution when driving, operating machinery.
Drowsiness, Dizziness, dry mouth, restlessness, blurred vision, dilated pupils, dry or itchy
eyes, flushing, or fast heartbeats.
K- pain and redness of the eyes with dilated pupils; or difficulty urinating.
Tigan
C- Anticholinergic. Treatment of post-op or gastroenteritis-associated nausea and vomiting.

H- Prevent nausea and vomiting

E- Take by mouth on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating
C- Depression, shakiness or tremors, skin rash, sore throat or fever, and unusual tiredness.
Avoid alcohol.

K- Extrapyramidal reactions, may mask emetic signs of disease, drowsiness, blood
dyscrasias, blurred vision, coma, seizures, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, jaundice,
hypotension, headache, muscle cramps, opisthotonos.
