Sample survey
Students are uninterested in sports
A recent survey on 100 students from
SMK Infofokus A had indicated that 70%
of them dislike participating in any sports
activities held in school or even outside of
the school. This has proven the study that
many youngsters are obese as they lead a
sedentary life and spend most of their
leisure time in front of the computer.
Survey Part time job
A recent survey on 100 students from
SMK Infofokus A had indicated that many
form four students desire to work part-
time during the school holidays rather
than spending it at home without doing
anything benefitting. They feel doing part-
time job give them many benefits which
some parents overlook them.
Sample anecdote
Students are uninterested in sports
Lim and his friends always play truant
when it comes to participating in the
sports activities in school. They prefer to
loiter around at shopping malls or sit in
front of the screen playing computer
games for hours. They fail to realize the
importance of taking part in sports. Lim
and his friends are just a tip of the iceberg
of schoolchildren being uninterested in
sports activities.
Anecdote Part-time jobs
Jill and Veer prefer to spend hours in
front of the screen playing computer
games at cybercafe during the school
holidays. At home, they become couch
potato, leading a sedentary life that might
contribute to unhealthy lifestyle. Jill and
Veer are just a tip of the iceberg of
schoolchildren who are uninterested in
signing up for a part-time job during the
school holidays.
Intro:
Should pupils be allowed to work during
school holidays? My answer is Why not?. Before
I proceed further, let me specify the group of
pupils who should be allowed to work. I would
say pupils who are in Form Four and above
should be permitted to do so. They should
ideally work as sales assistants in supermarkets,
pump attendants at petrol kiosks or take up jobs
that are only approved by their parents.
Obviously, the advantages of working far
outweigh the disadvantages.
Para 2 : Point 1 pupils are kept
busy during the holidays
What happens when too free?
May feel bored at home
The effect?
1. Loiter in town with friends;
2. join the bad apples -being influenced to commit
activities against the law
3. Might get involved in vandalism and juvenile
delinquency.
Stop Juvenile Delinquency.mp4
Benefits if working?
1. would be spending their spare time beneficially and
wisely.
2. Make parents proud
3. earn extra pocket money
4. use the money during rainy days

Para 3 : Point 2 cultivate good
virtues among pupils
How?
1. Learn many things not found within the
classrooms
2. Learn to socialise in a different environment
Effect?
1.Become wiser about dealing with all kinds of
people
2. In the process- cultivate good virtues like
patience, tactfulness (dealing wisely) and
responsibility.
3.Become a better and optimistic person
4. May practise the values in school later on
become head honcho (leader)
Para 4: Point 3 gain experience
before going into the real
working world
Part-time job would be an eye opener and an
exposure
Learn basic skills before permanently taking up
the real and more challenging job in future
Will be an invaluable asset in the future
For example, a pupil works as a clerk in a legal
firm for three months
Gets a better insight about the work of a lawyer
Motivated to pursue law in university after
completing SPM or STPM
Para 5 : Point 4 learn to be
independent
Most pupils over-protected parents
Think they are young and raw unable to stand
on their feet
Feel their children would become money minded
and neglect their studies
I firmly believe that their worries are unfounded
Should give them chance- may learn to manage
time systematically
Would not depend totally on parents after that

Para 6: Point 5 appreciate better
the value of money
Work hard to earn money
Would not become spend-thrift realise
how difficult it is to earn a penny
Money would also come in handy esp for
pupils from poor families
Teach them to ease the burden of parents
by supporting them financially even
though for a short period.
Ending
In conclusion, money should not be the
main aim for the pupils to work. They
should be thinking more on gaining
experience by keeping themselves busy
doing work during the school holidays. For
sure, working during the school holidays
will benefit a lot for a pupil. Therefore, he
or she should be allowed to work.
