Making speeches

is the best way to

change your life
and master English!
Three general
principles
1. Speak about something you have
earned the right to talk about
through experience or study.
tell us what life has taught you
look for topics in your background
2. Be sure you are excited about your
subject.
3. Be eager to share your talk with
your listener.

Ten guiding
principles of
speech-making
1. Be simple. Tend toward
conversational language.
2. Be expansive(. Speeches
use more perspicuous
words than well-written essays or
reports.
3. Be concrete. Specific terms limit
a listeners chances to
misunderstand.
4. Be vivid. Appeal to the pronouns.
5. Be personal. Use personal
pronouns.

6. Be smooth. Avoid clauses which
interrupt your idea. Feel free to use
contractions if they help the
flowof the speech.
7. Be aggressive.
Dont use the loaded language of your
enemies.
8. Be purposeful. Your listeners assign
meaning to your words; your intent is
less important than your listeners
perception.

9. Be eloquent
. Use an occasional rhetorical
device to enhance your
expression of an idea.
10. Be adaptable. Write to suit your
speaker. A writer must know the
speakers feeling and the speakers style.
And remember your speaker may need a
tensely worded speech one
week and a flowery one
the next.
