Andrew Goodwin had a theory on music videos which basically
specified that the lyrics of the song are shown throw the music
videos in a physical way. That the visuals backed up what the
lyrics were trying to suggest. The lyrics of the song are shown
through the narrative of the music video. That they are heavily
linked.
the emotions portrayed within the lyrics of the music are also
redirected into the music video.
another feature in Goodwins theory is that women are sold to an
audiences almost like they are not human beings at all. They are
stereotypically dressed in little clothing as to attract the male
audience.
Genders are represented also, in a stereotypical manor. Men are
presented as the dominant ones. They are often calm or violent.
Whereas women are presented in as more demeaning manor but
it all depends on the type of music.

Carlssons theory says that three different videos can be
combined (the narrative the performance and the
conceptual video)into one video.

The narrative- this is the story in which the lyrics of the
music is telling and is portrayed visually in the video.

The performance-this mainly shows the artists in the video
in order for them to get more exposure and for the
benefit for fans in which there are three types- a dance, a
song and an instrumental.

The conceptual video- if there is not a narrative then a
piece of scenery can be used instead of the artist being on
screen, although they be seen from time to time
throughout the video.
This person believes that the star is an
image, not a real person that is made up of a
variety of different things such as
advertising, magazine exposures and well
known films/movies.
He believes that the idea that icons and
celebrities contracted by institutions for only
financial gain and target one particular age
group.

This video really shows the artists emotions that are also
shown within the video. This song is all about
empowerment and not letting any one put you down,
which is why there are no other people within the video.
She is portrayed as a champion.

In a way, in this video, she is contradicting Goodwins
theory that women are just objects in a video. The artist,
throughout the whole video, is the only person seen.
Signifying that she is independent and strong despite what
other videos display.
This music has a lot of black and white
which I believes the is linking to her lyrics,
much like Goodwins theory. The lyrics are
saying that she doesnt wasnt to fall in
love whilst she has black paint all of her
white shirt and her body. The white could
indicate pureness if she stays away from
love. The blackness implies that she
believes that bad things will happen
should she fall in love.




Carlssons theory is presented also in
this music video the video. The part
about the artists performance.
However in this sense it may be act as
way for the artist to let out her
frustrations and just let out the hurt
which shown by the black clothing.
