Kesimpulan
Learning outcomes
look at problems, decisions, and opportunities systematically
use Parallel Thinking as a group or team to generate more, better
ideas and solutions
make meetings much shorter and more productive
reduce conflict among team members or meeting participants
stimulate innovation by generating more and better ideas quickly
create dynamic, results oriented meetings that make people want to
participate
spot opportunities where others see only problems
think clearly and objectively
view problems from new and unusual angles
see all sides of a situation
achieve significant and meaningful results

3
DEFINITION
simple, effective parallel thinking process
helps people be more productive, focused,
and mindfully involved.
once learned, the tools can be applied
immediately
six clear functions and roles.
Each role is identified with a colored symbolic
"thinking hat."

4
The Six Hats
5
The white hat
Calls for information known or needed-
gathering just the fact
Cover facts, figures, data and information.
Present information in a neutral and objective
way.
Focus on the information- which is available,
needed and how it might be obtained.
Put aside proposals, opinions, belief, and
arguments.
Example what information do we have here?
6
The yellow hat
Calls for optimism, positive aspect.
Allows to look for benefits, feasibility and etc.
A deliberate search for positive.
Every creative ideas deserves some yellow hat
ideas.
Example what are the positive assets of this
design?

7
The black hat
Judgment, caution and evaluation.
Allows to consider logically and critically.
The most used hat
Used too early in the problem solving process
can easily kill creative ideas with early
negativity.
Example this proposal would be too
expensive.
8
The red hat
Covers intuition, feelings, hunches and
emotions.
Allows to put forward intuition and feeling
without the needs for justification,
explanation or apology.
Allows feeling to come into the discussion
without pretending to be anything else.
Example- I dont like the ways this is being
done.

9
The green hat
Creating new ideas and new ways of looking at
things.
Put forward possibilities and hypothesis.
Makes time and space available to focus on
creative thinking.
Difficult because it goes against our habits of
recognition, judgment and criticism.
Example- could we do this in a different way?
10
The blue hat
Controlling the sequence of thinking.
Organizing and controlling the thinking
process so that becomes productive.
Concern with meta-cognition.
Example- suggest the next step could we
have a summary of your view?

Mind maps of 6 thinking hats
12
Example - problem
The directors of a property company are
looking at whether they should construct a
new office building. The economy is doing
well, and the amount of vacant office space is
reducing sharply. As part of their decision they
decide to use the 6 Thinking Hats technique
during a planning meeting.

13
Solution(thinking with 6 hats)
1. White hat
analyze the data have.
examine the trend in vacant office space, which
shows a sharp reduction.
Current government projections show steady
economic growth for at least the construction period.
2. Red hat
some of the directors think the proposed building
looks quite ugly.
would be highly cost-effective, they worry that people
would not like to work in it.

14
3. Black hat
worry that government projections may be wrong.
The economy may be about to enter a 'cyclical
downturn', in which case the office building may be
empty for a long time.
If the building is not attractive, then companies will
choose to work in another better-looking building at
the same rent.
4. Yellow hat
if the economy holds up and their projections are
correct, the company stands to make a great deal of
money.
If they are lucky, maybe they could sell the building
before the next downturn, or rent to tenants on long-
term leases that will last through any recession.

15
5. Green hat
consider whether they should change the design to
make the building more pleasant.
Perhaps they could build prestige offices that people
would want to rent in any economic climate.
maybe they should invest the money in the short
term to buy up property at a low cost when a
recession comes.
6. Blue hat
move between the different thinking styles.
keep other members of the team from switching
styles, or from criticizing other peoples' points.

Meeting Management
Team Productivity and Communication
Product and Process Improvement, and
Project Management
Critical and Analytical Thinking, Problem-
Solving, and Decision-Making

17
conclusion
recognise that the human brain works in
distinctly different modes.
Edward DeBonos Six Thinking Hats show us
the six main modes of operation.
We need to ensure that we are aware of the
different modes, and, as much as possible,
make sure that we match the appropriate Hat
to the appropriate parts of the overall process.
