Introduction

Terminology
Underway Replenishment (UNREP): Any method of transferring
fuel, ammunition, and/or stores from one ship to another at sea
Replenishment at Sea (RAS): Underway logistical transfers of
material
Fueling at Sea (FAS): Same as above, specifically for fuel transfer
Connected Replenishment (CONREP): Method of transferring fuel,

Fuel/Water Transfer
Samples are immediately taken and tested by the Oil King to
ensure it is not contaminated prior to opening the risers.
Once samples come back clear, fuel or water can be transferred
to their respective storage tanks via piping.
When transferring potable water the utmost attention must be
taken to ensure contamination does not occur.

27

Break Away Sequence

Once transfer is complete fuel lines are depressurized and
valves are secured.
Signalmen signals: Replenishment completed at this
station. Commence unrigging.
Probe is retrieved by the Delivery ship.
UNREP station gets permission from the bridge to
detension the spanwire. Delivery ship detensions the
spanwire and the Receiving ship will trip the pelican hook.
P&D line is the last line to be recovered.
Once all lines are clear the ship is free to maneuver.
28

Break Away Sequence

Emergency Breakaway: is an accelerated breakaway
The goal of this evolution is to separate the ships as quickly
and safely as possible.
Permission from the bridge to detension the span wire is not
required.
Cutting of wire ropes or lines during emergency breakaway
should be exercised only as a last resort.
