The world is changing with

incredible speed

These changes are in turn

disrupting the delicate, systemic
balances that make up the
biosphereand even changing the
face of the Earth itself.

Buth this may require a

different world view and
new thinking
No problems can be solved from
the same consciousness that
created it. We have to learn to
see the world anew.
(Albert Einstein)

Does all these require a new

type of Education?
What comes
to your mind
when we
speak of
Globalization
?...
Of
Sustainable
Development

A world in where everyone has the opportunity to benefit from

education and learn the values, behaviors, and lifestyles
required for a sustainable future for POSITIVE SOCIAL
TRANSFORMATION.

Sustainable Development
is
development that meets the
needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future
generation meet their own needs

But what
does this
really mean?

In human terms

Sustainability means
to continue to flourish
indefinitely.

The Sustainability Paradigm

Without functioning
natural systems, everything
collapses
Without functioning
economic systems, societies
cannot advance
Without functioning social and at the heart of
a sustainable future
systems, people can not
are sustainable
develop
people, individuals
who are ethical,
empowered, and
have understanding
to make the right
choices.

Developing a Sustainable
Future
a new paradigm (pattern of
behavior), and alternative to
our present model for society
and economy is needed.

Sustainability will
Require us to reorient our thinking
and how we see the world (including
each other)
and thus , reorienting
education to incorporate
sustainability mindsets, values and
principles at its core.

Sustainability requires shifting

from
Transmissive to Transformative
Learning
From passing on a set of body of
knowledge such as in a complete
textbook (transmissive) to
To recognition that we are all
learners learning together and
moving into the unknown, to
invent and discover new
knowledge that contribute to
sustainable practices
(transformative).

Questions for Reflection

What can be done at the classroom
level to promote transformative ESD
education?
In my personal capacity, what can I
do to enhance my own capabilities to
deliver transformative education?

The transition from business as usual to

engaging in a transformative education
process is a matter of choice. With the right
vision, planning, collaboration and preparation
around ideas that empower pupils and teachers
alike to act for positive environmental and
social change By being open to diverse
learning strategies, by appreciating the
importance of multi-stakeholders partnerships,
by working together to solve problems-we gain
new ideas, fresh insights, inspiration and a
knowledge that a sustainable future is a reality
for all of us.
We just need to choose!

Thank you for your time.

Have a nice day!
