ABOUT ABGINTRODUCTION
ABG Shipyard Ltd. The flagship company of ABG group, the registered office and the
yard are situated at Surat & Dahej in the state of Gujarat, Goa and the corporate
office is in Mumbai.
ABG Shipyard was incorporated in the year 1986 as Magdalla Shipyard Pvt. Ltd. With
the main objects of carrying Shipbuilding and Ship Repair business. In a spam of 23
years from the year 1991, the company has achieved the status of the largest private
sector shipbuilding yard in India with satisfied customer base all around the world.
The flagship facility of ABG is located in the banks of Tapti River at Magdalla, near
Surat in Gujarat. Spread over 55 acres. Surat is close to Mumbai (Bombay) and not
far from Ahmedabad.
During past decade, the Shipyard has constructed and delivered Many Vessels
including Specialized and Sophisticated vessels like Interceptor Boats, and Pollution
Control Vessels for coast guards. Self Loading and Discharging Bulk Cement
Carriers, Floating Cranes, Art couple Tugs, Bulk Carriers, Newsprint Carriers,
Offshore Supply Vessels, Dynamic Positioning Ships, Anchor Handling Tug Supply
Vessels, Vessels for Cosmography etc. for leading companies in India and abroad.

by SENER, a private engineering and consultancy concern set up in 1956

The function of the quality control and assurance department are as follows:
Verification of various parts as per the block drawing issued by the design department
Particular classification society identification
To verify the details like yard no, block no, part no, material grade
Dimensional inspection with respect to the owner specification and classification society
To identify the defects in welding
Undercut
Porosity / pinholes
Cracks
Slag
Sharp edges
Tank testing
Pneumatic test: This test is carried out to check the boundary welds, block erection etc.
by means of air pressure difference. Defects are found out when soap solution is applied
around the boundaries of the compartment after the compartment is pressurized.
Hydro test: This test is similar to the pneumatic test. Here water is stored inside the
structures. Defects are found here from the compartment from that particular defects
and the same are repaired.
