Spoken English
Language understanding beginning with listening.
Language codes real, experiencesAnd a child
begins to
understand language when he is continually
exposed to certain Experiences and the same verbal
referents or labes are used for the same experience.
He begins to associate the verbal referent with the
experience. Eg: mothe always says the word milk
when she
feeding the baby, in the time the baby will learn
to associate the word milk with the white liquid that
he ia feed with by his mother.Listening

Assessing Listening Comprehension


Nouns
-To determine whether a student knows the
meaning of the word used to label things,
the simplest way is for the teacher to say
the word , and have the student point to a
picture of the object.
Adjectives
- To test for listening comprehension of
adjectives, the teacher can show a picture
of two similar objects but with different
characteristics, and ask the student to point
to the object with the names characteristics.

verbs
To test a students comprehension of action words ,t
eacher can ask the students to either perform the
action named or to point to a picture showing
he action.
Preportion
To test the students understanding of words used
o indicate position , the teacher can show pictures
of similar objects in different positions.
Tenses
To test whether the student understants present
action, completed action and future action, the teach
can again resort to the use of pictures.

Understanding Directions and Instructions


-To test whether a student can understand instructio
given by the teacher, the teacher merely gives the
instructions for performing a task and ask the
students to carry out the instructions.
Eg: The teacher can say wipe your hands and the
Student does as he is instructed.

Understanding Discourse
-To test whether the student can understand
connected text,the teacher can read from a text and
then ask question based on the text.

One of the focus of instruction is English


usage in different communicational
contexts.
teacher need to create situation that will
enable the students to use English
appropropriate in these situations to achieve
the purpose of communication.
Input precedes output and if you do not
have the necessary language knowledge
and skills, you will able to carry out the
communicational task.
Eg. Teacher wants to teach the students
how to inquire about the price of goods.

appropriate questions.
