Chapter 1: ADMITTING THE EXISTENCE OF
INDOLENCE.
Rizal admits that indolence exist among
the Filipinos, Hot climate, pointed by Rizal is a reasonable predisposition for indolence. He also told us that an hours work under the Philippine sun is equivalent to a days work in temperate regions. But he also pointed out that if a person can adapt ones climate. Then, it will be easy for them to work.

Invasions have brought disorder to the
communities. Chaos has been widespread, and destruction is rampant. Many men have been sent into shipyards to construct vessels and other natives have gone into mountains thats why farms have been neglected. This are the reasons why Rizal called the indolence of Filipinos.

Filipinos, According to Rizal are not
responsible for their misfortunes. Because of the abuse of the Spaniards many abandoned their fields. Business are monopolized by many government officials. Because of the friars many were fooled. Like if you dont donate your property to church you will not go to heaven. This are some reasons for deterioration of values among Filipinos.
Chapter: 5 LIMITED TRAINING
AND EDUCATION.
According to Rizal two factors can reduce
indolence. First is separate Filipinos with Spaniards. Because, Filipinos does not receive the same amount of training and education with that of the Spaniards. Second, lack of national sentiment among with them. They submit foreign culture and do everything to imitate them. Solution according to Rizal, would be Education and Liberty.
Summary:
Through Rizals deep insights of social
anthropology, he was able to analyze the factors causing the Filipinos indolence. According to him, that was not due to the climate or the absence of stimuli to work but due to the hardships or barriers out of the political and social systems during those times.
