Conclusion
Horticulture is the study of fruit, vegetables,
ornamentals, medicinal & aromatics crops. India
has made significant development in this sector
after development.
Medicinal plants refers to plants rich in
secondary metabolites( Alkaloids & flavonoids )
These plants form the main base for the
manufacture of Indian system of medicine.
Aromatic plants are defined as plants which
contains essential oils. Essentials oils are mainly
complex mixture of acyclic or cyclic
monoterpinoids.
The foreign exchange earned by India from
the export of medicinal & aromatic plants is
estimated to be US$ 3,000 million/annum.
The international market of medicinal
plants related trades is estimated at US$ 60
billion/annum.
India has made significant development in
this sector after independence.

Used in ice cream
making, cosmetics
& confectionery
industries.

3. Periwinkle:

getting popularity all over the world. Medicinal
& aromatic plants form the base of ISM.
 Demand for Medicinal & Aromatic plants
has been increasing with increase in no of star
hotels, spas, recreation centres & multinational
establishing consumer oriented cosmetics &
pharmaceuticals industries.
 Foreign exchange earned by India from the
exports of medicinal & aromatic plants is
estimated to be over US$ 3,000 million/Year.
The above mentioned points reflects the
potentials lying in this sector. The demand for
these plants is on increase in both developed &
developing countries. Main exporter countries are
USA, JAPAN, UK.
Efforts to commercially cultivate several
medicinal & aromatic plants have been made in
our countries & improved varieties have been
released in many crops.
