APO: Advanced Planner & Optimizer

Complete toolset needed to plan and optimize supply chain
processes at the strategic, tactical and operational planning
levels.
APO has four components:

DP: Demand planning

SNP: Supply network planning
PPDS: Production planning & Detailed scheduling
GATP: Global available to promise

Besides these, following supply chain features are available:

Supply network design
Supply chain monitoring using supply chain cockpit
Tight integration between APO and SAP R/3

Supply chain monitoring using supply chain cockpit:

The Supply Chain Cockpit is one of the APO planning applications, and consists of a
graphical instrument panel for managing and controlling the supply chain. It is
configurable to conditions within a wide variety of industries and business situations.
Anyone involved in the Plan Source Make Deliver cycle of supply chain
management can use it to their advantage.
SCC is a highly intuitive, graphical interface that acts as a top enterprise planning layer
covering other planning areas such as manufacturing, demand, distribution and
transportation.
This component allows you to:
View the entire supply chain from all angles, down to the smallest detail
Minimize the complexity of the relationships among supply chain components
Retrieve information from the APO system through queries
Measure supply chain performance with KPIs (key performance indicators)
Respond immediately and accurately to new developments by tracking alert
situations
Retain flexibility in your decision-making process
As the gateway to APO, the Supply Chain Cockpit provides you with a window to your
supply chain.
It also makes dealing with a vast and cumbersome supply chain easier and more
manageable. By creating individual work areas, several planners can work
simultaneously on different parts of a supply chain.

Supply Network Design:

Network Design is a planning application for making tactical and strategic supply chain
decisions. With this tool, strategic logistics planners and supply chain managers can
model and redesign the supply chain by performing cost evaluations of locations, what-if
analysis of current territorial divisions, transportation network analysis, and positioning
of locations such as distribution centers.
Functionality ranges from the determination of optimal sourcing or shipping patterns to
the evaluation of proposed supply chain network changes such as the closing or opening
of locations.
Key functions include what-if analysis for finding the best network solution and for
evaluating the benefits of any changes. Another important function is the option to
perform simulations with different demand and supply patterns or with different cost or
capacity constraints.
The tool also enables planners to determine how much capacity is necessary to create
an optimal network for the forecasted demand situation.
