TRADITIONS IN CHINA

THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA IS A COUNTRY WITH AN ENORMOUS CULTURAL WEALTH.


WITHIN THE CHINESE TERRITORY THEY ARE COUNTED MORE THAN HALF HUNDRED OF
ETHNIC GROUPS, EACH ONE WITH ITS OWN SPOKEN LANGUAGE AND ITS SPECIFIC
CUSTOMS. ALTHOUGH THE OFFICIAL HELD IN LOW ESTEEM (PUTONGHUA) IS THE OFFICIAL
LANGUAGE, IN MANY COUNTRYSIDE IT IS CONTINUED SPEAKING THE LOCAL VARIETY.

SPRING FESTIVAL

That commemorates the entrance of the Lunar New

Year. The families meet the eve of the first moon of


the first month according to the lunar calendar (that
usually agrees with the last days of January or first of
February of the gregoriano calendar) and celebrate
their arrival with dance, posters, decoration and
traditional food.

Only fifteen days after the arrival of the New Lunar Year it takes

place Festival of the Lights, that serves to commemorate with


light and color the respect to Buddha. During these feasts, one
of the traditions more rooted consists in accompanying the lights
by a sheet of paper that contains a riddle. The person who
creates to know the solution can eliminate the paper and ask to
him the owner of the light if its answer is the correct one. During
the celebrations, one eats yuanxiao, dumplings of rice stuffed of
a mixture of as different ingredients as sesame and petals of
rose

The Chinese painting shares the meticulous and taken care of by the detail of his clagraga and has

given rise to fantastic works on different supports and materials and to the use of traditional subjects like
the flowers, the birds and the landscape. Another one of its traditional arts is the work of the stone of
jade, although the Chinese crafts very are varied: the Chinese ceramics, its handling of the silk, the

the South and to the Southwest of the
country and the borders of the river

(the green tea is the most popular)

CHINESE KITCHEN
The own extension of the country and its diversity cause the benefit of a rich gastronomy and

variadam, of which they are explaining eight kitchenseight varieties of the Chinese tradition
gastronomical that have been formed throughout the centuries: Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan,
Hunan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Anhui. Depending on the variety, the plates are more or less
