 This is toughest one on the Mc Kinsey Global Survey.

 Retaining the talented is difficult in organizations as opportunities are


overwhelming around the world.

Ex: No time bound job for talented in many MNC’s

giving freedom, loyalty


maintaining fair transactions and performance oriented bonus and other

 Diversity existing in - gender

 it is an opportunity rather than a challenge


 sometimes it strength than weakness
 it provides enormous information and leads to fruitful discussions

 organizations are quite relaxed when they are


- monopolies
- having maximum market share
- getting huge profits for the past etc..

 analyzing the strengths, opportunities and threats in and out


 should seek further growth

 Objectives provide the direction in which the firm must move

 Hence manager must constantly monitor the progress and activities of


the firm

 Evaluation of alternatives for their contribution for the achievement


of objectives

 EX: A pharmaceutical company wanted to start packing business and


later paper manufacturing
Mc-2 Managing survival and growth
 “Survival of the fittest”---- is the law of jungle holds true here

 Survival of the firm is the critical task of the manager and he should actively seek growth of the
firm

 Factors influence are two types


Internal and external
Choice of technology govt. policies
Competency of Labors laws and regulations
Company image changing customer taste
Fin resources increasing competition
Mc- 3 Meeting the challenge of change

 Any firm operates under social, political, technical and cultural


environments which are always change
 Manger must be change-agent
 He should first adapt and absorb the change

 It is responsibility of the manager to ensure that the change is introduced


and incorporated in a smooth manner with least disturbance and resistance

 Ex: introducing computers in Govt. offices


Mc-4 Managing the obsolescence

 Mangers or executives after working for 20-25 years reach a stage of saturation

 Some cases they are unable to relate the latest management skills and feel
totally lost.

 Ex: removing of top level mangers in IT firms

 To over come : conducting the training classes

 Giving scope to learn other areas of interest


Mc-5 Coping with the public criticism and
political opposition

 Large business groups are targets for public and political criticism

 Criticism arise from political or personal reasons

 To avoid these , keeping all the activities absolutely legal and fair

 And manager must maintain low profile about his company

 He should feed the correct information to media and political people
