A journey to the

Southwest!

Intro
The purpose of the project is to relate
geologic stratigraphy to elevation of
notable geologic sites throughout the
Southwest.
Its important to study how these
areas were formed so theres a
understanding of earths processes.

Results
We were able to create 7 maps of Arches,
Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, Red Rocks,
South Park, Cripple Creek, and Great Sand
Dunes.
Throughout Utah and Arizona sandstone
was the dominant rock type, while
Colorado was variable in dominant rock
types.

Discussion
Lack of tectonic activity allowed river
systems to shape much of Utah and
Arizonas geology, and throughout most
national parks surficial geology is uniform
and stratified.
Colorado is has been shaped by mountain
building and faulting which is
representative of alluvial deposits,
unconformities, and erosion.

Conclusion
The maps we made allow for easier
study of stratigraphy throughout the
areas to be visited.
The results of Elevation analysis
helps to tell the story of how the
areas were shaped.
