Human Resource Development is a system of developing in a continuous and planned way the competencies
of individual employees, groups (supervisor and subordinate), teams and the total organisation to achieve the
organisations goals.
It maximize the congruence between the individual and the organisational goals of employees an develops an
organisational culture in which teamwork and collaboration among various units become strong and
contribute to the professional well-being, motivation and pride of employees.
HRD - series of organized activities conducted within a specified period of time and designed to produce
behavioural change. Organized learning experience in a definite time period to increase the possibility of job
performance and growth.

Scope HRD aims to bring changes in the following areas: 1. Recruitment and for meeting the present and
future requirements 2. Performance appraisal of the employees in order to understand their capabilities and
improving them through additional training. 3 Career planning and development programmes for the
employees. 4. Development of employees through succession planning. 5. Employee learning through group
dynamics and empowerment. 6. Learning through job rotation and job enrichment (redesigning jobs so that
they are more challenging, less repetitive work) 7. Development of employees through managerial and
behavioural skills.
