CONTENT, THROUGH THE TARGET
LANGUAGE INCREASES THE AMOUNT
OF EXPOSURE THE LEARNER GETS TO
IT, AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THEY
HAVE TO COMMUNICATE IN IT, AND
THEREFORE TO DEVELOP THEIR
CONTROL OF IT.
Tamil&English- are Common Medium
Languages. Most private schools medium of
instruction is English while the government run
schools are primarily Tamil medium.

TheKendriya Vidyalaya's run by the central


government have a dual medium of instruction -
English and Hindi.

Teachers taught grammar by making students


memorize the rules and. work on exercises.

Participation of students in the learning process was


less.

Most of the teachers gave and checked homework.

Technique in language teaching was not employed in


an effective manner.

Mostly,the teacher asked the questions, students


were not motivated to ask question, this deprives the
students of practice for communication, command
and confidence.

Block Resource Teacher Educators (BRTE) in the third
consecutive year of the Tamil Nadu Teacher Education and
Development Project programme which is being conducted by

English language proficiency among teachers in the state

MATHEMATICAL TERMS,
SYNTAX, AND SYMBOLS

USE CONCRETE
MATERIALS, WHICH HELP
DEVELOP MATHEMATICAL
UNDERSTANDING WHEN
LINKED TO THE CONCEPTS
THEY REPRESENT
IF THE TEACHER EXPLAINS THE PARTS OF THE
FLOWER IN ENGLISH, USING PROPER ENGLISH
SENTENCES, THE STUDENTS WILL LEARN SCIENCE
ALONG WITH THE LANGUAGE [ LANGUAGE OF THE
CONTENT] ENGLISH.

THIS ALSO HELPS THE STUDENTS TO RELATE


THEMSELVES TO THE CONTENT/CONCEPT BETTER.

IF THE MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION IS NOT USED


APPROPRIATELY, THE STUDENTS WILL FIND IT
DIFFICULT TO USE ENGLISH IN THEIR FUTURE.
