INTRODUCTION:
-

Maglev suspensionis a method by

which an object issuspendedwith
no support other thanmagnetic fields.

Magnetic forceis used to counteract the

effects of thegravitational accelerationand
any other accelerations.

The two primary issues involved in magnetic

levitation arelifting forces andstability.
Principle of magnetic
levitation:-
Like magnetic poles repel each other , whereas
unlike poles attract each other.

Two bar magnets are suspended

one above the other with like poles

Repeating this experiment using a verylight

bar magnet as the upper member of the pair ,
the force of repulsion would be sufficient to hold
the smaller magnet suspendedlevitatedin
air.
Types of Magnetic
Levitation:-
These are of following types.
1.Permanent Magnets
These magnets do not require a large
power supply for operation.

The main disadvantages of a permanent magnet

is the cost .
2.Electromagnetic Magnets
By running electric current through a wire,
we can create a magnetic field.

Here the main disadvantage is that

current must flow continuously.
3.Superconductive Magnets:-
The idea behind the superconducting magnets is that
there is a material which presents
no electrical resistivity to electrical current.

Once a current has been fed into the coils of this material,
it will indefinitely flow without requiring the input of any
additional current.
Application of Maglev:-
Although maglev system is more expensive , it has many
advantages
Like :-
1.Wind Turbine
2.Maglev Train
3.Magnetic Bearing etc.
Wind Turbine:-

A Magnetic Levitation Wind Turbine are very low noise, virtually

frictionless system needing little maintenance.
The start up wind speed is about 2mph
There is no actual physical contact between moving
parts, so there is no friction and nothing to wear out
Maglev
Train:-
When an electric current flows through the
propulsion coils, a magnetic field is produced. The
forces of attraction and repulsion between the coils
and the superconducting magnets on the train
propel the car forward .

The train's speed is adjusted by altering the timing

of the polarity shift in the propulsion coils' magnetic
field between north and south
Comparrision with conventional
trains:-
Speed:Maglev allows higher top speeds than conventional trains.

maonstruction costs.
Maintenance: Maglev trains currently in operation have
demonstrated the need for minimal guideway

Weather: Maglev trains are little affected by snow, ice,

severe cold, rain or high winds

Track: Maglev trains are not compatible with

conventional track, and therefore require custom
infrastructure for their entire route. These claims have
yet to be proven in an intense operational setting and
does not consider the increased maglev construction
costs.
Magnetic
bearing:-
Amagnetic bearingis abearingthat supports a load using
magnetic levitation. Magnetic bearings support moving parts without
physical contact
Passive magnetic bearings use permanent magnets and, therefore, do
not require any input power but are difficult to design

Magnetic bearings are used in several industrial applications such as

electrical power generation, petroleum refinement, machine tool
operation and natural gas handling
Advantages:-
Magnetic leviation provides more suitable
effect.
Its efficiency is better.
Losses in this case is less.
Cost is also less.
Friction is very less.
Durability is reasonably high.
Disadvantages:-
To achieve the stable position is difficult time
taking.
To create a setup environment is difficult.
The high cost incurred on the initial setup.
Future proposal in
INDIA:-

Pune(Pimple Saudagar) Mumbai(Panvel):

The Indian Ministry was in the process of
reviewing a proposal to start a maglev train
system in India. It had been estimated that the
cost to complete this process would be over
$30 billion.
Conclusion:-
Magnetic levitation is an exciting technology with the potential to
change the world. Its applications are far ranging from
transportation to household fixtures and decorations.
