COMMUNICATION IN NURSING


- To be successful nurse, excellent
communication skills are required. The ability
to communicate and connect with patient and
health care professionals can help build
relationship, prevent mistakes and provide a
higher level of care

Communication can be verble,electronic or written.
Staff nurse must use Read Back "to verify the
complete order or test result in the following
situation :
Verbal order
Telephone order
Reporting or critical result value
The receiver of the information will write down the
complete order or test result
Or enter into a computer.

A colleague will then be requested to READ
BACK the written order or test result to the
individual who gave the order or test result
The order or test result in CONFIRMED by the
individual who gave the order or test result
VERBAL COMMUNICATION

Verbal communication happens without words.
It is an ongoing process. Listening is important
in communication. It is responsible nursing
practice and requires concentration of
attention and mobilization of all the senses for
the perception of verbal and non verbal
massage emitted by each patient.

COMMUNICATION

Electronic communication technology ,such as
email ,social media, text messaging and
electronic health records, to exchange patient
provider e- communication in nursing today
most pervasive in healthcare EMAIL
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

Health services need to keep good written records
of the care given to patient/client for three main
reason
To make sure the care and treatment can continue
to be given safely no matter which staff are on duty
24 hours a day ,seven days a week.
To record the care that has been given to the patient
/client.
To make sure there is an accurate records to be
used as evedencewhen there is a complaint from
a patient/client about they care received.

You will be supporting registered staff to
prepare and update patient records(see the
next part of this section on records
keeping),so having a sound grasp of the
principles of written communication is
important.
The actual level of your involvement in written
patient records will vary from workplace to
workplace-you need to find out what's
expected of you in your workplace and make
sure you follow the rule.
