The parish church of San Pedro was begun by the Jesuits in 1874 who had
been expelled from Guatemala under the direction of the priest Alejandro
Caceres, who was an architect and asked Spain's plans for the new parish.
Matagalpa Cathedral claims to be the only one in Nicaragua has in its altar
