The disciplines of obedience, restraint of
speech, and humility are necessarynot
because God is threatened by us but
because we are forgetful of God. God
tends to speak in a still, small voice,
easily crowded out by noisiness and idle
talkativeness.
"I said, 'I will guard my ways, that I may
not sin with my tongue. I have set a guard
to my mouth. I was mute and was
humbled, and kept silence even from good
things (Psalms 38)
