Introduction

Guru is a 2007 Indian drama film loosely based on the life


of Dhirubhai Ambani, a business magnate who
founded Reliance Industries.

The film was co-written and directed by Mani Ratnam.

It stars Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, R.


Madhavan, Vidya Balan, Arya Babbar, and Mithun
Chakraborty in the leading roles.
Scene 1

When Guru bhai was in Turkey, he was working in a chemical


Factory. There he was promoted to the role of Sales Supervisor
in Just 7 years because he was good as his work, a regular
employee takes up 14 years. That is when Guru bhai quit his job
and decided to come to his village and start his own business

Scene 2

Guru talks to his friend (who is son of a landlord) about starting


a business. He says that he has 15k needs only 15k more to start
a business.

His friend says that, his father wont invest he is saving for his
sisters marriage, When guru asks him, he replies 25k, so guru
makes up his mind to marry his friends sister

Expectancy Theory

It proposes that people will choose how to behave depending on the


outcomes they expect as a result of their behavior.

1. Expectancy the belief that your effort will result in your desired goal.
(Get Guru the desired money for starting the business)
2. Instrumentality the belief that you will receive a reward if you meet
performance expectations (is he marries his friends sister he will get the
money for dowry)
3. Valence the value you place on the reward (Business is always capital
intensive in the beginning thus, Guru has high value for the dowry
money)

Guru comes to Mumbai, at want to trade in cloth business. But without
being a member of the Union it is impossible to trade.

The cloth Union in Mumbai was the reference group that had the
privileges of participating in trading.
Scene 4
KK Menon IAS officer seals the cloth market under the influence of Arzan
Contractor the ex-head of the cloth union. In order to pursue KK Menon,
Guru unloads all his Kela silk cloth which he had purchased earlier in
Menons home. Finally under the fear of facing corruption charges KK
Menon lifts the ban on cloth trading

It proposes that the attitudes can be changed by 2 modes of persuasion

Central route requires more thought and cognitive processing, it is used


for extensive problem solving, it is also considered as the most effective
marketing strategy

Businessman Arzan contractors father gives Guru bhai a blank cheque
and asks him to write any amount in it, and leave the businesses forever.
Guru Bhai gets angry, he thinks that Hafeez Contractors father is trying to
buy him. Guru bhai becomes aggressive, He gathers all the people he
knows from Press and tells them to write false and wrong things about
Contractors business.

On the last day, when the enquiry commission was going to announce
their results, Guru bhai gave a speech where he said, if dreaming big and
trying to move ahead in life is a crime, he agrees he has committed crime,
he stated that if it was possible to mint money he has minted money, and
the money that he has minted is not for himself but its for his 30 lakh
shareholders. Thus, although he used unfair means for dong business,
the profits were shared by his 30 lakh shareholders. Owing to this, out of
the 29 accuses levied on Shakti mills. Guru was convicted for only 2
accuses and was charged with a fine of Rs 63 lakhs
