WHO IS JESUS

CHRIST?

Bro. Kier John F. Macarayan

Millions today claim to be his followers, almost 2,000
years after his death

Countless numbers have been martyred for their faith

in him

The book about him, the Bible, is easily the No. 1

best seller of all time
WHO IS
JESUS
CHRIST?
The uniqueness
of Jesus
Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this
Mary's son and the brother of James,
Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his
sisters here with us?" And they took
offense at him. Mk. 6:3
Three things that make Jesus an absolutely unique figure
in human history:

He was preannounced and his coming was

expected
Once he appeared on the scene, he struck history
with such impact that he split it in two, dividing it
into two periods: BC and AD
Every other person who came into this world came
into it to live
Some details about His life
Jesus was a young carpenter in Nazareth
For three years he became an itinerant preacher
He was never more than 100 miles from his home
He had never been into cities with a population larger than
50,000
Within 3 years he was dead, killed in little Jerusalem on
the fringes of the Roman empire
He was crucified for stirring up the people
By right he should simply have faded into complete
oblivion
He is surely the most famous, honoured, and best-loved
person who ever walked the earth
What was
He like?
A very attractive personality
As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were
overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
Mk. 9:15
Strong in mind and body
Down to earth
A magnetic leader
A man of extraordinary authority
Not confused or unsure of himself or of his mission
Very human
Jesus claim to be God
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me
will do the works I have been doing, and they
will do even greater things than these,
because I am going to the Father.
John 14:12
But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, Are you the
Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One? I
am, said Jesus. And you will see the Son of
Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty
One and coming on the clouds of heaven.
Mark 14:61-62
The one who looks at me is seeing the one who
sent me. John 12:45

I and the Father are one. John 10:30

Very truly I tell you, Jesus answered, before

Abraham was born, I am! John 8:58
"On the one side clear, definite, moral teaching. On the other,
claims which, if not true, are those of a megalomaniac,
compared with whom Hitler was the most sane and humble of
men. There is no half-way house, and there is no parallel in
other religions. If you had gone to Buddha and asked him, 'Are
you the son of Bramah?', he would have said, 'My son, you are
still in the vale of illusion'. If you had gone to Socrates and
asked, 'Are you Zeus?', he would have laughed at you. If you
would have gone to Mohammed and asked, 'Are you Allah?',
he would first have rent his clothes then cut your head off. If
you had asked Confucius, 'Are you heaven?', I think he would
have probably replied, 'Remarks which are not in accordance
with nature are in bad taste'. The idea of a great moral teacher
saying what Christ said is out of the question. In my opinion,
the only person who can say that sort of thing is either God or a
complete lunatic suffering from that form of delusion which
undermines the whole mind of man C.S. Lewis.
Story of the paralytic at Capernaum

Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed

man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get
him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening
in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then
lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw
their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins
are forgiven.
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking
to themselves, Why does this fellow talk like that? Hes
blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what
they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to
them, Why are you thinking these things? Which is
easier: to say to this paralyzed man, Your sins are
forgiven, or to say, Get up, take your mat and
walk? 1But I want you to know that the Son of Man has
authority on earth to forgive sins. So he said to the
man, I tell you, get up, take your mat and go
home. He got up, took his mat and walked out in full
view of them all. This amazed everyone and they
praised God, saying, We have never seen anything like
this! Mk 2:3-12
"Now unless the speaker is God, this is really so preposterous as to
be comic. We can all understand how a man forgives offenses against
himself. You tread on my toe and I forgive you, you steal my money
and I forgive you. But what should we make of a man, himself
unrobed and untraded on, who announced that he forgave you for
treading on other men's toes and stealing other men's money?
Asinine fatuity is the kindest description we should give of his
conduct. Yet this is what Jesus did. He told people that their sins
were forgiven, and never waited to consult all the other people whom
their sins had undoubtedly injured. He unhesitatingly behaved as if
He was the party chiefly concerned, the person chiefly offended in
all offenses. This makes sense only if He really was the God whose
laws are broken and whose love is wounded in every sin. In the
mouth of any speaker who is not God, these words would imply
what I can only regard as a silliness and conceit unrivalled by any
other character in history C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Simon Peter

Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he

asked his disciples, Who do people say the Son of Man
is? They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say
Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.
But what about you? he asked. Who do you say I
am? Simon Peter answered, You are the Messiah, the
Son of the living God.
Mt. 16:13-16
Martha
Yes, Lord, she replied, I believe that you are
the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the
world. John 11:27

Nathaniel
Philip found Nathanael and told him, We have
found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about
whom the prophets also wroteJesus of Nazareth, the
son of Joseph. John 1:49
Thomas
Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here;
see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my
side. Stop doubting and believe. Thomas said to him,
My Lord and my God! John 20:27-28

The centurion
When the centurion and those with him who
were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had
happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, Surely he
was the Son of God! Mt. 27:54
Evil spirits

What do you want with us, Son of God? they shouted.

Have you come here to torture us before the appointed
time? Mt. 8:29

What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you

come to destroy us? I know who you arethe Holy One
of God! Mark 1:24
Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down
before him and cried out, You are the Son of God.
Mark 3:11

Moreover, demons came out of many people,

shouting, You are the Son of God! But he
rebuked them and would not allow them to
speak, because they knew he was the Messiah.
Luke4:41
God confirmed
Jesus claim
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked
up and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard
me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this
for the benefit of the people standing here, that they
may believe that you sent me. John 11:41-42
