FUNCTION OF SUBSTATION
TYPES OF SUBSTATION
(according to construction features)

1. Indoor substation (11kv)

2. Outdoor substation (beyond 66kv)
3. underground substation
4. Pole-mounted substation (distribution substation)
EQUIPMENT FOR PROTECTION OF
SUBSTATION
All over the world Railway transportation is
depend on signaling system.
There is a need to provide control on the
movement of trains in the form of signals.
There are basically two purposes achieved by
railway signaling to safety receive and dispatch
trains at a station.
Signal has to be connected to the points in an
arrangement so that train is to divert from one
track to another this is known as interlocking.
Generally there are three types of Signals-
1. Fixed Signal
2. Hand Signal
3. Fog Signal
TRANSFORMER

INSULATORS

Metal which do not allow free movement of

electrons is called an insulator.
Types of insulator are:
1. pin type insulator
2. suspension insulator
3. strain insulator
4. shackle or spool insula
5. tor stay insulator
